Safety Instructions for ELAC SUB 101 ESP
O Please observe any caution notes given in the
operating instructions and on the appliance itself.
O Connect the appliance only to the correct mains
voltages as shown on the equipment.
O In case of a fault, replace the fuse only with the
correct fuse type as shown on the back of the
appliance on the fuse holder. A second fuse is
included with the device (in the fuse holder
beneath the mains socket).
O Route the power cord in a way to eliminate any
risk of damage (e.g. treading, placing heavy
furniture or “spikes” on it). Always pull the plug
and not the cord for mains disconnection.
O To avoid loud disturbing noises, the connection
cables of an audio system should never be made
and broken in complete working state of the
appliances. With ELAC SUB 101 ESP the
automatic switch on the back of the appliance
has to be put into the position “OFF”.
O Although the appliance is in position “OFF”, it is
not completely separated from the mains,
recognizable by the LED at the rear. To avoid
unnecessary risks and energy consumption for
instance during longer absence, the mains plug
or - if used - the power switch of a multiple
socket should be accessible easily.
O If the loudspeakers have not been magnetically
shielded, they could contaminate or distort the
picture of the television in their immediate
vicinity. Generally, a distance of more than 0.5
m is sufficient to avoid disturbances of this
nature. Many television sets have a correction
circuit installed for such cases. When these sets
are switched off and, after a few minutes,
switched on again, the above-mentioned
disturbances have been corrected and should be
no longer discernible.
O Please do not lay down for instance credit cards,
floppies or other magnetic data carriers on the
loud-speakers housings; the stored information
may be destroyed. Cassette recorders and video
cassette recorders should not be placed in the
direct vicinity of the device either; the function of
the tape heads might be impaired (subsequent
de-magnetisation by a specialist is possible,
though).
O The loudspeakers should be located in a place
free from high relative humidity and moisture. As
with all appliances which are not specially
designed for wet applications, moisture can
bridge electrical isolation and therefore provides
a source for life dangerous risk. Permanent high
relative humidity and extreme insolation can
cause the wooden cabinets to swell thus
impairing their efficiency.
O Continuous high volume may disturb the
neighbors and cause severe damage to your own
health.
O Since the temperature of the heat sinks on the
back can reach more than 60
C under longer
high level conditions, be careful when touching
the appliance. To avoid unnecessary action of
the thermal fuse, sufficient air circulation for the
heat sink must be provided
O Extreme overload of the device due to very high
volume may cause the blowing of individual
components. Theoretically, this kind of overload
could cause a fire in the interior of the enclosure.
However, we know of no such case. Because of
the possible danger, you should never leave
loudspeakers under extreme overload conditions
unattended.
O Connection of ELAC SUB 101 ESP to high-
performance power stages through loudspeaker
terminals (“SPEAKER LEVEL IN”) at a high
volume may lead to voltages of more than 30V
at the terminals. Given these conditions, please
avoid touching cable ends, which are sometimes
uncovered, or terminal contacts.
O The speaker terminals may only be connected to
the corresponding amplifier output connectors or
the input of satellite speakers. Any other kind of
connection directly to the mains (230/115 V) is
not permitted; this would lead to almost
immediate destruction of the loudspeaker.
Therefore, please, do not fit the loudspeaker
cables with plugs that may be confused with
mains plugs. In this context, particular care must
be takenof children and pets.
O Take care that no foreign bodies or liquids enter
the appliance.
O To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not open
the appliance. Refer service to qualified
personnel.
