Overview

The Elektra KUP is a professional espresso coffee machine designed for use by barmen, espresso machine operators, and installation/maintenance technicians. It is a robust appliance built for continuous operation in commercial settings, ensuring high-quality coffee production.

Function Description:

The KUP machine is designed for dispensing espresso coffee, steam, and hot water. It features independent dispensing groups with programmed or manual coffee doses. Each group includes a heating circuit for brewing water, coupled with a boiler, ensuring a constant and optimal brewing temperature. The machine's control system measures the volume of water fed through each group to ensure the final coffee volume in the cup matches the user-programmed value. It accounts for the water needed to wet the coffee puck and adds it to the programmed quantity. The system is designed for high precision in determining the brew ratio with low production times, eliminating the need for filterholder weighing before and after loading coffee.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Boiler Capacity: KUP 2gr models have a 12-liter boiler, while KUP 3gr models have a 16-liter boiler.
  • Brewing Water Temperature: Settable from approximately 72°C to 90°C.
  • Boiler Water Temperature: Settable from 112.5°C to 128.3°C, with a standard factory value of 122.5°C.
  • Boiler Pressure: Kept from 0.6 bar to 1.6 bar, with a standard factory value of 1.2 bar.
  • Heating Elements: Three boiler heating elements, 1170 W each for 2-group models and 1840 W each for 3-group models, protected from overheating by a thermostat with manual reloading.
  • Filter Baskets: Equipped with 7-gram and 9-gram filter baskets as standard, with optional 17-gram and 21-gram baskets (the latter with a relevant filterholder).
  • Sound Emission: Weighted sound emission level A is 80dB with an uncertainty of 1dB.
  • Water Supply Pressure: Measured by a pressure sensor when the water pump is stopped.
  • Brewing Pressure: Measured by a pressure sensor during pump operation, adjustable between 0.8 MPa (8 bar) and 0.9 MPa (9 bar).
  • Power Supply: Available in single-phase 230VAC and three-phase 400VAC N3 connections.
  • Operating Environment: Designed for use in environments where the temperature does not fall below 5°C or rise above 40°C.

Usage Features:

  • User-Machine Interface: Features an alphanumeric display for communication and inputs via a programming key, increasing/decreasing pushbuttons, and an "Enter" pushbutton. Messages are displayed as fixed or scrolling text.
  • Automatic Dosing: Allows dispensing of coffee in preset doses by pressing coffee cup symbols. Dispensing stops automatically once the preset dose is reached. During dispensing, the elapsed time and coffee volume are displayed.
  • Manual Dosing: Enables dispensing coffee of different lengths by pressing and repressing a designated button. This function is always enabled, even in case of major faults.
  • Steam Dispensing: Equipped with one or two swivel steam wands operated by a joy-stick, designed for large milk containers and good ergonomics. Steam is produced by the main boiler.
  • Hot Water Dispensing: Features one swivel hot water valve operated by a joy-stick, suitable for large water containers. Hot water is drawn from the main boiler.
  • Cup Warming: Models are equipped with cup heater trays with multiple levels, heated by natural hot air flow from inside the machine, to keep cups warm.
  • Night Cycle: Allows programming a start and end time for a night cycle, during which the machine enters a partial operation state at a low temperature (40°C) to save energy.
  • Parameter Setting: Users can set various operating parameters, including coffee doses, copy doses between groups, and night cycle setup.
  • Basic Programming (Technician Only): Accessible with a key, this menu allows setting language, time/date, night cycle, brewing temperature, crono setup, scheduled maintenance alerts reset, coffee production display/reset, and water consumption display/reset.
  • Special Programming (Dealer/Technician Only): Allows personalization of machine functions, such as scheduled maintenance programs, activation of dispensing only at ideal brewing temperature, maximum coffee dispensing time, and saving/printing configuration data.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Cleaning:
    • Groups and Filterholders: Clean group shower and filterholder gaskets with a cloth/sponge. Rinse filters and filterholders in boiling water to remove fatty deposits.
    • Steam Wands: Clean externally with a moist sponge immediately after milk preparation. Internally disinfect by submerging the wand in cold water and operating the steam valve until the water boils.
  • Weekly Cleaning:
    • Groups: Clean dispensing groups internally using a semi-automatic procedure guided by the machine. This involves installing a blind filter, adding detergent, and running 10 dispensing loops, followed by a rinsing step.
    • Filters and Filterholders: Immerse in a solution of detergent and boiling water for 20-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
    • Drip Tray: Remove the lower cup grille and drip tray, clean them, and also clean the drain box.
    • Body: Clean with a damp (non-abrasive) cloth. Avoid alcohol or solvents.
  • Monthly Boiler Water Changing: Recommended to completely change the boiler water at least once a month, especially since it's used for hot drinks. This involves switching off the machine, operating the hot water valve to drain the boiler, then switching it back on to refill automatically.
  • Scheduled Maintenance Alerts: The machine can be programmed to display alerts for scheduled maintenance, which can be reset by a technician.
  • Buffer Battery: The electronic control unit has a buffer battery for storing time and date, with alerts for low battery status.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a guide for common issues and their solutions, advising users to contact Technical Assistance for persistent problems or major faults. It explicitly states that tampering or unauthorized interventions void the warranty.
