9.3 Preparing the work site
• Neverworkwhenlightintensityisbelow500Lux.
• Besidesthemachine,theworkareamustalsocomplywithcertainconditions;theymustbe
verified prior to starting the work.
• Examinetheworkareaandremoveanyforeignobjectsfromthelawn.
• Foreignobjectsinclude:metal,stone,plastic,pvc,bones,rope;butalsomolehills,branches,
water hoses, etc. Some of these can cause severe damage to your machine or lead to blade
breakage.
• Foreignobjectsthatcannotberemoved(suchasdraincovers,built-inpoweroutlets,water
sprinklers, tree roots) must be visibly marked.
• Alwayscutthegrassbeforedethatching.Ensurethatthegrassisshorterthan30millimetres.
• Amowedlawnalsodisplaysanyforeignobjects.
• Dethatchingawetlawnisnotrecommended.
• Planyourcoursesothatthewindblowsthedustproducedbydethatchingawayfromthe
engine.
• Useofthemachineonseverelydrysoilisnotrecommendedforthefollowingreasons:
• Thegrasswillrecovermuchslowerthanusual.
• Thelawnwillbebadlydamaged.
• Thebladeswearfasterandrequirereplacementsooner.
• Moredustwillbeproduced,soilingtheenginemorequickly.
• Greaterdehydrationofthesoilthanwasthecasealready.
• Westronglyrecommendthatyoutreatthegrasswithananti-mossherbicideoraweedkiller
approximately 1 week prior to dethatching so as to ensure that the moss is dead and dry. It will
help the grass to thicken more easily after dethatching.
