Overview

The Fender MTG: LA is a high-gain tube distortion pedal designed to emulate the sounds of the late '80s Sunset Strip. This pedal utilizes a real NOS 6205 preamp tube, operating at 150 plate volts, to deliver authentic tube tone. It offers a range of familiar controls for shaping your sound, including Level, Gain, Tone, and EQ. Additionally, it features a footswitchable boost function that can be configured to either increase overall volume or add even more gain to your signal. The pedal is designed in California, U.S.A.

Function Description:

The MTG: LA serves as a high-gain tube distortion effect for electric guitars, basses, acoustic guitars with pickup systems, keyboards, and other instruments. It allows users to introduce a rich, saturated distortion characteristic of classic rock and metal tones. The footswitchable boost provides an on-demand increase in either volume or gain, offering versatility for solos or pushing an amplifier further.

Usage Features:

The pedal features a straightforward layout with several controls and indicators:

  • Bypass Footswitch (1): This footswitch engages or bypasses the effect. When bypassed, the signal passes through the pedal without being processed.
  • Jewel Indicator (2): This light illuminates when the effect is active, providing a visual cue of the pedal's status.
  • Output Jack (3): This low-impedance output jack connects the pedal to an amplifier or to the next effect pedal in your signal chain.
  • Level (4): This control adjusts the overall output level of the distortion effect.
  • Tone (5): Similar to a tone control on a guitar, turning this knob counterclockwise decreases treble frequencies, while turning it clockwise provides a full-range tone.
  • Treble (6): This control allows for high-frequency boost or cut, enabling fine-tuning of the pedal's high-end response.
  • Boost Level (7): This knob controls the output volume of the boost function.
  • Boost LED (8): This LED illuminates when the boost is engaged, indicating that the boost function is active.
  • Boost (9): This control adjusts the amount of saturation added to the signal when the boost is active.
  • Bass (10): This control allows for low-frequency boost or cut, enabling adjustment of the pedal's low-end response.
  • Tight (11): This control helps manage low-end tonal characteristics, preventing higher-gain settings from sounding muddy or unclear.
  • Gain (12): This control adjusts the amount of distortion added to the signal.
  • Input Jack (13): This high-impedance input is suitable for connecting electric guitars, basses, acoustic guitars with pickup systems, keyboards, and other instruments.
  • Boost Footswitch (14): This footswitch engages or disengages the boost function.
  • LED Kill Switch (15): This switch deactivates the illumination of the control knobs, which can be useful in certain stage or studio environments.
  • DC Power Connector (16): This is the standard center-negative 9VDC jack for connecting an appropriate power supply.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: To clean the unit's exterior, unplug the AC power adapter first. Use only a damp cloth for cleaning and ensure the unit is completely dry before reconnecting it to power.
  • Servicing: The unit contains no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel only.
  • Power Supply: Always use a safety agency certified, regulated power source (adapter) that is approved for use and compliant with applicable local and national regulatory safety requirements.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not expose the unit or its AC power to rain or moisture to prevent damage, fire, or shock hazard.
    • Do not alter the AC plug of the connected power adapter.
    • Do not drip or splash liquids on the unit.
    • Be mindful of volume levels: Amplifiers, loudspeaker systems, and headphones (if equipped) can produce very high sound pressure levels, which may cause temporary or permanent hearing damage. Exercise care when setting and adjusting volume levels.
