WHAT IS THE FITBIT ACE 2?
A Fitbit is an activity tracker that records children’s sleep and
physical activity. The Fitbit Ace 2 device is made especially for
children. The Fitbit does not track location. In order to assess
movement it uses an accelerometer. You can imagine this as
something like connecting a baby raddle to a computer. Every time
the person moves the rattle shakes, the computer records the
rattles. The faster the person moves the more rattles there are per
minute. Researchers use this rate, called counts per minute, to
determine the intensity of exercise using formuals specific to ages
and populations. The Fitbit Ace 2 will also tell us the number of
steps your child takes per day. All of this comes to us in figures on
the app and through a weekly e-mail report.
Our hope is that you can use the Fitbit to keep track of your child’s
physical activity and sleep and be aware if they are staying up at
night or not moving enough. Children earn tickets towards prizes in
BUILT for wearing the Fitbit so hopefully we can use the monitors
and prizes to encourage them to move more and sleep more.
Your Fitbit box comes with 2 items: the tracker and a USB charger,
which you will use to charge the watch. For more details see:
