Do you have a question about the FLOJET 4105 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Flojet "Quad II Diaphragm" 4105 Series is a self-priming, dry-running pump designed for shower drain and reverse osmosis (R.O.) feeder applications. It is engineered for reliable performance in marine environments, meeting U.S.C.G. Electric Standards.

Function Description

The pump utilizes a four-chamber positive displacement diaphragm design to move liquids. It is capable of self-priming up to a 6-foot suction lift, meaning it can draw water from a source up to 6 feet below its inlet. A key feature is its ability to run dry for extended periods without sustaining damage, which is particularly useful in applications where the liquid source might intermittently run out. The pump is designed to be quiet during operation. For optimal use, it is recommended to pair the pump with a "lighted" on-off switch to ensure it is turned off when not in use, preventing unnecessary battery drain.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Pump Series: 4105-XXX

Usage Features

  • Mounting: The pump can be mounted vertically with the pump head down, or horizontally in an accessible location. If mounting vertically with the motor up, motor mounts should be attached first, then pump head mounts, while supporting the pump's weight.
  • Hose Connections: Uses 1/2" I.D. flexible hose (preferably braided or reinforced) with hose clamps on slip-on barb hose connectors.
  • Strainer Requirement: Installation of a 1/2" in-line strainer (part #01740-002 or equivalent) in an accessible location between the shower drain pan and the pump inlet is required for pump warranty to be valid.
  • Wiring:
    • For power sources up to 20 feet away, use 14 gauge stranded wire.
    • For power sources up to 50 feet away, use 12 gauge stranded wire.
    • An on-off switch (10-15 amp rated, preferably lighted) should be installed on the positive (red) motor lead.
    • Fuse protection is required on the positive lead: a 10 amp fuse for the -143 model and a 7 amp fuse for the -343 model.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Constructed with corrosion-resistant materials, making it suitable for marine environments.
  • Noise Absorption: Features soft, noise-absorbing mounts for quieter operation.

Maintenance Features

  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as failure to prime, motor not turning on, low flow and pressure, and pulsating flow.
    • Failure to Prime: Could be due to restricted intake/discharge line, air leak in intake, debris in pump, punctured diaphragm, crack in pump housing.
    • Motor Not Turning On: Possible causes include blown fuse, loose wiring, no power to pump circuit, or a defective motor.
    • Low Flow and Pressure: May result from an air leak at pump intake, debris accumulation, worn pump bearing, punctured diaphragm, or a defective motor.
    • Pulsating Flow: Often caused by restricted pump delivery, requiring a check of discharge lines, fittings, and valves for clogging or undersizing.
  • Service Kits: Flojet offers service kit assemblies to simplify repairs, as often a single failed component can overburden others.
  • Disassembly and Reassembly Instructions: Detailed steps are provided for disassembling and reassembling the upper housing, check valve assembly, lower housing, diaphragm, and motor.
    • Key steps include: careful removal of the upper housing, inspection of the check valve, rotating the lower housing to access the set screw holding the bearing housing, loosening cam piston screws to access the diaphragm, and ensuring proper alignment of components during reassembly.
    • Torque Specifications: Specific torque values are given for tightening cam piston screws (18 in. lbs.) and housing screws (30 in. lbs.) to ensure proper sealing and function.
  • Service Parts: A comprehensive list of service parts is provided, including part numbers for the service kit, upper housing with clips, check valve assembly, diaphragm assembly, lower housing assembly, motors (standard and CE models), and pump head assembly.
  • Quick Connect Port System and Strainers: Information on available quick connect port fittings and compatible strainers (e.g., #1740-012) is provided, highlighting the requirement for a strainer for warranty validity.

Warranty and Return Procedure

Flojet offers a one-year warranty against defects in material and/or workmanship. For returns, customers must obtain an authorization number from customer service, write it on the shipping package, and include a note explaining the reason for return, along with contact information.
