Care and Maintenance
Wood Chassis Care
Fine woodwork as found in your FAP V1 preamp processor should never be exposed to direct or strong sunlight, heating vents or
outlets, open windows or moisture of any kind. Direct sunlight and UV rays can cause the finish of your FAP V1 to fade or change
color after long exposure.
Take care to ensure no plastic or rubber materials come into prolonged contact with the wood chassis of your FAP V1. Chemicals
used in the plastic and rubber may soften the wood and finish applied to it thereby making it possible to damage the wood finish.
To avoid this always place a felt or cork material between the wood chassis and any objects placed onto it.
Every 6 months soil buildup can be removed by using a clean cotton cloth and a high quality, non-silicon based fine furniture cleaner.
Avoid waxy or oily cleaning products. Do not use a damp cloth or water as it may damage the wood finish. Dusting should be done
with a clean dry cotton cloth or soft dusting brush, do not use water. Always rub in the direction of the wood grain when cleaning
your FAP V1 wood chassis.
Any accidental liquid spills that occur should be immediately cleaned using a soft, clean, dry cotton cloth. Always wipe the chassis in
the direction of the wood grain.
Avoid mars and scratches when moving the FAP V1 or handling items near the FAP V1. Wood is a soft material that can become
damaged when hit by other objects. If you need to move the FAP V1 ask for a friend to assist lifting and guiding the FAP V1 to the
desired location, if possible wrap the FAP V1 in a protective cloth while moving or transporting your unit.
In the event that your FAP V1 must be moved a greater distance or shipped, retain and re-use the original packaging as it was
designed to transport your FAP V1 without the possibility of damage occurring inside the packaging itself.
Vacuum Tube Care
Always handle the tubes carefully as they are very fragile and can break easily.
When handling tubes use a clean cotton cloth to prevent body oils from coming in contact with the tube. Oils found on the skin
can affect the performance and heating characteristics of the vacuum tubes.
When replacing or removing vacuum tubes from the FAP V1 ensure the unit is powered off and unplugged from the wall socket.
Allow generous cool-down time to prevent the risk of burns due to the heat these tubes can generate. Grasp the tube firmly with a
clean cotton cloth and in a fluid motion pull straight upwards to un-seat the tube from the socket. Never pull the tube out or insert
the tube at an angle, this can stress the glass housing of the tube and cause it to crack or shatter.
Replacement tubes can be located at dealers of audio purpose vacuum tubes or can be purchased through Fosgate Audionics Parts
Department by calling 1-800-669-9899. The preamp tubes may very well last many years in normal operation. The preamp tubes
should only be replaced by the same model 6N1P type vacuum tube. DO NOT use other model tubes in place of these. To verify your
tubes are in peak condition you may take the tubes to a local tube audio service or repair facility. They should have test equipment to
validate the condition of your FAP V1 vacuum tubes.
