The device is designed to encourage physical activity and help manage chores for children, while providing parents with tools to track their child's progress and customize settings through a companion app.

Function Description

The vívofit jr. 3 is a wearable device that tracks a child's daily steps, active minutes, and sleep data. It integrates with the Garmin Jr. app, which serves as a central hub for parents to manage and monitor their child's activities and chores. The watch displays various metrics and notifications, and it can be customized with different watch faces and step icons.

Key functions include:

Activity Tracking: Records daily steps, active minutes, and sleep patterns. The watch encourages children to reach a daily 60-minute activity goal, which unlocks adventures on a map within the Garmin Jr. app.
Chore Management: Parents can create and assign chores through the Garmin Jr. app. The watch displays the number of completed and assigned chores for the day.
Reward System: Children earn virtual coins for completing chores, which can be redeemed for custom rewards set by parents in the app. The watch displays the updated coin total when connected to a phone.
Timed Activities: The watch can record specific timed activities, such as recess or a game, and send the details to the Garmin Jr. account for viewing in the app.
Step Challenges: The vívofit jr. 3 supports Toe-to-Toe™ step challenges, allowing children to compete with themselves or friends for a set duration.
Emergency Contact Information (ICE): Parents can set up emergency contact details in the Garmin Jr. app, which can then be displayed on the watch for quick access in case of an emergency.
Alarms and Timers: Parents can set alarms to send to the watch, and the watch itself has preloaded task timers for common activities like brushing teeth or reading.
Data Syncing: The watch periodically sends data automatically to a paired Bluetooth device. Users can also manually initiate data syncing to view the latest activities, chores, and coins in the Garmin Jr. app.

Usage Features

The vívofit jr. 3 is designed for simple interaction, primarily through a single button.

Watch Interaction:

Scrolling through features: Pressing the button briefly scrolls through various watch features, such as date, steps, active minutes, chores, coins, new level notifications, and emergency contact information.
Accessing the menu: Holding the button for 1 second and releasing it displays the menu options.
Selecting menu options: Pressing the button scrolls through the menu options, and holding it for 1 second selects the desired option.
Backlight: Pressing the button for less than 1 second turns on the backlight, which automatically turns off.

Garmin Jr. App Features (for parents/guardians):

Family Customization: Edit family name, invite additional parents or guardians, and manage connections for family step challenges.
Kid Mode: Enable a restricted mode for children to mark chores complete and redeem rewards without parental approval. This mode can be protected by a passcode or facial recognition.
Child Profile Management: Customize child's name, avatar, background color, bed time, wake time, birth date, gender, and display text on the watch face.
Watch Customization: Select watch faces, step icons, and configure alert tones.
Daily Goals: Update the daily step goal and set custom stride lengths for walking and running.
Time and Date Formats: Select preferred time and date formats for the watch.
Device Information: View model, software version, serial number, and owner's manual.

Pairing Process:

The vívofit jr. 3 must be paired directly through the Garmin Jr. app, not through the phone's Bluetooth settings.
A Garmin Connect account is required for at least one parent or guardian.
The app guides users through setting up a family and adding children.
The watch enters pairing mode by holding its button until a specific icon appears.
Multiple mobile devices (e.g., a tablet or another parent's phone) can be paired with the same watch.
Additional watches can be added for new or existing children through the app.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides clear instructions for device care and battery replacement to ensure longevity and proper functioning.

Device Care:

General Precautions: Avoid extreme shock, harsh treatment, pressing buttons underwater, and using sharp objects for cleaning.
Chemical Avoidance: Do not use chemical cleaners, solvents, or insect repellents, as these can damage plastic components.
Rinsing: Thoroughly rinse the device with fresh water after exposure to chlorine, salt water, sunscreen, cosmetics, alcohol, or other harsh chemicals to prevent case damage.
Temperature Exposure: Avoid high-temperature environments (like clothes dryers) and prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, which can cause permanent damage.
Cleaning: Rinse the watch with water or use a damp lint-free cloth. Allow it to dry completely.
Skin Irritation Prevention: To prevent skin irritation, ensure the watch is clean and dry, and avoid overtightening it on the wrist. If irritation occurs, remove the watch and allow the skin to heal.

User Replaceable Battery:

The vívofit jr. 3 uses a user-replaceable CR2025 battery.
Replacement Procedure:
1. Remove the watch module from the band.
2. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to loosen the four screws on the back of the watch.
3. Remove the rear case and the old battery.
4. Insert a new CR2025 battery with the positive side facing the rear case.
5. Verify that the gasket is not damaged and is fully seated in the front case.
6. Replace the rear case and tighten the four screws equally and firmly.
7. Insert the watch module back into the flexible silicone band, ensuring the watch button aligns with the button insert on the band.
8. Press the button to turn on the watch.
Troubleshooting Battery Issues: If the watch doesn't turn on after battery replacement, ensure a high-quality CR2025 battery was used, the positive side is facing the rear case, and the button was pressed to turn it on.

Replacing the Band:

The adjustable band is designed for children aged 4 and older.
To replace the band, remove the watch module from the old band and insert it into a new flexible silicone band, aligning the watch button with the band's button insert. Optional accessories and replacement parts can be purchased from Garmin or a Garmin dealer.

Software Updates:

When a software update is available, the watch automatically downloads it when data is sent to the phone.
A progress bar and an icon will appear on the watch during the update, which may take several minutes. The watch should remain near the phone during this process. The watch restarts upon completion.

Troubleshooting:

Inaccurate Step Count: Tips include visiting the Garmin accuracy website, wearing the watch on the non-dominant wrist, or carrying it in a pocket when actively using hands/arms.
Incorrect Time Display: The watch updates time and date when syncing with the phone. Manual syncing is recommended after changing time zones or for daylight saving time updates.
Watch Not Responding (Reset): If the watch stops responding, hold the button until it powers off, then press it to turn it back on. This does not erase data.
Watch Won't Turn On: Refer to the battery replacement instructions.
