      Deborah FarrellAug 31, 2025
If you experience excessive smoking during the clean cycle of your GE Ranges, it's likely due to excessive soil or grease. Press the Cancel/Off pad, open windows to ventilate the room, wait until the locked light goes off, wipe up the excess soil, and then reset the clean cycle.

What causes areas of discoloration on my GE JS645EL Ranges cooktop?
    • J
      Jason AndersonSep 15, 2025
Areas of discoloration on the cooktop can be caused by food spillovers not cleaned before the next use. On a model with a light-colored cooktop, it can also be caused by a hot surface. The surface may appear discolored when it is hot, but this is temporary and will disappear as the glass cools.

Why does my GE JS645EL Ranges oven door glass appear to be "tinted" or have a "rainbow" color?
    • A
      Andrew CameronSep 14, 2025
The inner oven glass is coated with a heat barrier to reflect the heat back into the oven to prevent heat loss and keep the outer door cool while baking. This is normal. Under certain light or angles you may see this tint or rainbow color.
