Overview

The GE KeySafe™ is a secure storage device designed to hold keys, providing controlled access through a user-defined combination code. Its primary function is to offer a safe and convenient way to store keys, particularly useful for multiple users or situations where physical key handover is impractical.

Function Description:

The KeySafe operates on a mechanical combination system. Users set a unique code, which, when entered correctly, allows the lid to be opened, granting access to the stored keys. The device is designed to be robust and secure, preventing unauthorized access to its contents. The combination mechanism involves a series of numbered screws that are set to either an "ON" or "OFF" position, corresponding to the digits of the desired code. Once the code is set, the device can be closed and locked, and only by re-entering the correct combination can it be reopened.

Usage Features:

  • Initial Setup and Opening:

    • Upon unboxing, the KeySafe lid can be opened by pressing the "OPEN" button. If the lid doesn't open immediately, pressing the "CLEAR" button (located below the "OPEN" button) first should free it.
    • The inside of the lid features digits 1 to 5 on the left and 6 to ZERO on the right, which are part of the combination setting mechanism.
    • Initially, there is no pre-set code, and the "OPEN" button will move freely, indicating an unset state.
  • Setting the Combination Code:

    • To set a code, the lid must be turned over, and a white card needs to be removed. This card is crucial for the code-setting process and should not be discarded.
    • On the underside of the lid, there are 10 numbered screws, each with an arrow. All arrows are initially set to the "OFF" position.
    • Using the tip of a screwdriver (often found on the white card itself), users push and turn the desired numbered screws 180 degrees to the "ON" position. These "ON" positions correspond to the digits of the chosen code.
    • Supra UK Limited recommends using a code between 5 and 7 digits for optimal security.
    • After setting the code, the white card should be replaced.
    • To verify the code has been set, pressing the "OPEN" button will now show restricted movement, indicating that a code is active.
    • To check the code's correctness, press the buttons corresponding to the set code. Each digit should produce a "CLICK" sound when pressed. Once the correct code is entered, the "OPEN" button will press down freely.
  • Storing Keys:

    • A key ring is provided with the KeySafe. Keys should be attached to this ring.
    • It is important to ensure that the key lies flat within the vault and that the key ring does not protrude, as this could interfere with the lid's proper closure.
  • Closing and Locking the KeySafe:

    • To close the KeySafe, the bottom of the lid is offered into the aperture of the vault.
    • The user must then re-enter their personally set code.
    • If a mistake is made during code entry, the "CLEAR" button can be pressed to start again.
    • With the correct code entered and the "OPEN" button held down, the lid can be secured into the vault, locking the keys inside.

Maintenance Features:

  • Code Reset/Change: The combination can be changed at any time by repeating the code-setting process. This involves removing the white card, turning the desired screws 180 degrees to either the "ON" or "OFF" position as needed, and then replacing the card. This flexibility allows users to update their security periodically or if the code has been compromised.
  • White Card Importance: The white card is not just a guide but also contains the screwdriver tip necessary for adjusting the combination screws. Keeping this card safe is essential for any future code changes or resets.
  • Troubleshooting: If the lid does not close properly, it's crucial to ensure that the key and key ring are positioned flat and not obstructing the closing mechanism. Additionally, verifying that the combination has been set correctly and that the "OPEN" button moves freely after entering the code is a key troubleshooting step. The manual emphasizes that the lid will not close if the combination is not set correctly, highlighting the importance of this step.
