Do you have a question about the GILGEN FDC-B France and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The FDC-B France is a fire-rated swing door drive unit designed for the automatic operation of swing doors. It enables both automatic opening and closing, with functional characteristics determined by a program switch, internal switches, and potentiometers.

Function Description:

The drive unit supports several operating modes via its program switch:

  • 1 = AUTOMATIC: All control elements are active, and the installation is not locked.
  • 0 = MANUAL: Corresponds to operation without mains power. The door wing can be manually pushed to the open position, with closure achieved by spring power.
  • NIGHT: The door is locked during the night.
  • 2 = OPEN: The installation opens and remains in the open position.

Door opening can be initiated either automatically or manually via control elements. Automatic closure occurs after the programmed hold-open time expires. If the "Push-and-Go" function is enabled, a short manual push will cause the drive unit to automatically open the door.

Safety Functions:

The FDC-B France incorporates several safety features to protect users:

  • Obstruction in opening direction: If the door leaf encounters an obstacle during opening, the drive unit stops. The door closes after the hold-open time. The next opening motion starts at the programmed speed, moves to the obstacle's position, and then, if the obstacle is removed, proceeds at a reduced speed to the fully OPEN position. Subsequent movements return to normal speed.
  • Obstruction in closing direction: If an obstacle is met during closing, the drive unit stops, and the door opens to the OPEN position. During the subsequent closing motion, the door moves at the programmed speed to the obstacle's position, and then, if the obstacle is removed, proceeds at a slow speed to the CLOSED position. Subsequent movements return to normal speed.
  • Limitation of the force: The static drive power on the main closing edge is limited to 150 N.

Function in the event of a mains failure:

Should a mains failure occur, the door can be manually pushed open. Its controlled closure from any position is ensured by spring power, with the motor acting as a fixed damper.

Function in the event of a fire alarm:

Regardless of the current door position, the door closes in a controlled manner using spring power. If an escaping person opens the door, it will close again in a controlled way by spring power. Once the fire alarm is invalidated, the reset button on the drive unit must be actuated to resume operation in the mode active prior to the alarm.

Fire protection testing:

The FDC-B France swing door drive unit has been tested by CNPP based on the directive NFS 61-937, annex B, fiche 1.

Usage Features:

The operator manual emphasizes the importance of adhering to assembly, operating, maintenance, and repair conditions specified by the manufacturer to ensure safe and reliable operation. Neglecting these instructions absolves the manufacturer and distribution partner of responsibility.

Important safety warnings for operators:

  • In case of malfunctions detrimental to user safety that cannot be repaired immediately, the operator must be informed, and the installation may need to be taken out of operation.
  • Transparent door wings or their surfaces must be clearly recognizable, e.g., through permanent marking or dyed materials.

Maintenance Features:

Care and checking to be carried out by the operator:

  • Before any work on the drive unit, ensure the mains power supply is disconnected. The drive unit covering must not be removed.
  • Never use running water or high-pressure machines for cleaning the drive unit area. Avoid abrasive or chemical products for cleaning the installation.

Checking and maintenance to be carried out by the after-sales service:

  • Prior to initial commissioning and at least once a year during normal operation, an authorized specialist must check the installation's safe operating condition. The results must be documented in the control booklet.
  • It is recommended to conclude a maintenance contract with the manufacturer or an authorized distribution partner.
  • Maintenance work must follow the checklist in the control booklet FDC-B France, with execution confirmed by the after-sales service technician's date and signature.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting table for common issues:

  • Drive unit does not work:
    • Program switch: Switch to position 1.
    • Mains switch (installed by customers) switched off: Switch on.
    • Power plug pulled out: Plug in.
    • Customer's fuse defective: Replace.
    • Fire detectors triggered: Actuate the reset key-button.
  • Buzzer sounds:
    • Functional/fatal error: Contact after-sales service.

Prolonged Operating Interruption:

If the swing door installation will not be used for more than 3 months, it is recommended to pull out the power plug. If the last check-up was over a year ago when resuming operation, a competent specialist must inspect the installation before it is put back into service.

Shut-down/Disposal:

No special measures are required from the operator for shut-down, dismantling, or disposal. The installation should be disassembled into individual parts for recycling. It is advised to entrust after-sales service with dismantling and disposal to ensure compliance with environmental protection rules (against invoice).

Declaration of incorporation EC according to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC:

The FDC-B France (Type designation: FDC, FDC-B, FDC-E, Year of construction: as per 2011) is declared to meet the fundamental requirements of the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), specifically Appendix I, Articles 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.1.5, 1.2.1, 1.2.4, 1.2.6, 1.3.1, 1.3.2, 1.3.4, 1.3.7, 1.5.1, 1.6, 1.7. Technical documentation is available upon request. The unit also complies with directives for low-voltage installations (2006/95/EC) and EMC (2004/108/EC). Commissioning is prohibited until the installation incorporating this component is officially confirmed to meet the Machinery Directive requirements.
