Lift Assist Adjustment
(Figure 35)
The deck lift assist springs are adjusted to
reduce lift effort or to increase deck stability.
To adjust the force required to lift the deck:
1. Loosen the jam nut (1) on the lift assist
spring anchor bolt.
2. Adjust the spring anchor to the desired
setting:
• Loosen the spring anchor (turn
counter-clockwise) to decrease spring
tension and increase the effort
required to raise and lower the deck.
This will also add stability to the deck.
• Tighten the spring anchor (turn
clockwise) to increase spring tension
and decrease the effort required to
raise and lower the deck.
IMPORTANT: Excessive spring tension will
make the deck more likely to lift and bounce
off the turf when the mower travels over
rough terrain.
3. Repeat for the other side of the deck.
4. Measure the distances between the end
of the assist springs and the trunnions
on both sides. Ensure that both assist
springs are adjusted to the same
dimension.
NOTICE: Lift springs must be adjusted to the
same tension on each side of the deck to
prevent cut quality issues.
Removing the Mower Deck
(Figure 36)
1. Remove PTO belt (See Replacing
Mower Belts on page 36).
NOTICE: Support the mower deck on blocks
or jack stands before disconnecting links from
mower lift arms to prevent the deck from
falling.
2. Raise the deck to the transport position
and disconnect the lift assist springs (6)
from the mower lift arms (1) on each
side of the deck.
3. Slowly lower the deck to its lowest
position.
4. Remove hardware (5) retaining mower
lift links (2) from mower lift arms.
WARNING: AVOID INJURY.
Mower lift arms and mower lift
pedal could cause severe injury if
the lift assist spring is not
disconnected before disconnecting
the lift links.
Springs store energy. Keep body
parts well away from pinch points
when removing the deck.
