How to fix a GreenWorks string trimmer that fails to start?
    • K
      Kenneth JacksonAug 4, 2025
If your GreenWorks string trimmer isn't starting, it could be due to several reasons. Make sure the battery pack is properly attached to the trimmer. If it is, remove the battery, check the contact, and reinstall it. The battery pack might also be depleted, so try charging it. Ensure you are pressing down the lock-off lever and holding it while depressing the trigger simultaneously. Also, make sure to start the power button first, and the power indicator will trigger later. Attach the battery pack to the trimmer.

What to do if the GreenWorks Elite ST-120-T head will not advance line?

      Andrew HuynhAug 8, 2025
If the trimmer head on your Greenworks trimmer won't advance the line, the motor shaft or trimmer head might be bound with grass. Stop the trimmer, remove the battery, and clean the motor shaft and trimmer head. Also, check if there's enough line on the spool. If not, remove the battery and replace the cutting line. A dirty trimmer head can also cause this issue, so remove the battery and clean the spool, spool retainer, and spool base. If the line is tangled, remove the battery, remove the line from the spool, and rewind it. If the line is too short, remove the battery and pull the lines while alternately pressing down on and releasing the bump knob. Remove bump head hit on the ground.

      Antonio ObrienAug 28, 2025
If grass is wrapping around the trimmer head and motor housing of your GreenWorks trimmer, it's likely because you're cutting tall grass at ground level. To prevent this, cut tall grass from the top down, removing no more than 8 inches in each pass.

Why does my GreenWorks Elite ST-120-T Trimmer stop while cutting?
    • T
      Taylor TaylorNov 17, 2025
Your Greenworks trimmer might stop for several reasons. The guard might not be mounted, causing motor overload. Using heavy cutting line can also cause this issue; use only nylon cutting line 0.065" diameter or less. Grass tangled around the motor shaft or trimmer head, an overloaded motor, an overheated battery pack or trimmer, a disconnected battery pack, or a depleted battery pack could also be the cause. Re-install or charge the battery pack if needed. Allow the battery pack to cool until the temperature drops below 158°F (70°C). Allow the trimmer to cool until the temperature drops below 140°C. If the motor is overloaded, remove the trimmer head from the grass. The motor will recover to work as soon as the load is removed. When cutting, move the trimmer head in and out of the grass to...
