Overview

This document describes the Grizzly BRM 51-159 A-OHV Quattro Petrol Lawn Mower, a robust and versatile gardening tool designed for domestic use.

Function Description

The Grizzly BRM 51-159 A-OHV Quattro is a powerful 4-stroke petrol lawn mower, driven by a ZongShen General Power Machine XP160 engine. It features a "Ready-Start" system with a temperature-controlled automatic choke, which simplifies starting. The rear-wheel drive and blade braking function further enhance ease of operation.

The mower is equipped with a high-quality steel sheet casing and a foldable handlebar for convenient storage. Users can choose from three operating modes:

  1. Mowing with a grass collection box: For collecting grass clippings.
  2. Mulch mowing: For finely chopping grass clippings and returning them to the lawn as natural fertilizer.
  3. Mowing with lateral grass ejection: For discharging clippings to the side, suitable for larger areas or when collection is not desired.

Usage Features

  • Handlebar Assembly: The handlebar consists of an upper (1) and lower (4) section. The lower handlebar attaches to the device, allowing adjustment of the tilt angle via two possible screw positions. The upper handlebar can be folded down for space-saving storage by releasing two locking levers (20). Bowden cables (5) are secured to the handlebar with cable clamps.
  • Grass Collection Box (19): The grass collection box is assembled by pulling plastic loops (26) over the rods (25). It attaches to the rear of the mower via a holder (27) and is secured by the impact protection (6). The mower should not be operated without the grass collection box or impact protection fully installed.
  • Mulching Kit (23): This kit is inserted after removing the grass collection box and lifting the impact protection (6). A red locking button secures it in place. The lateral ejection canal must be removed before using the mulching kit.
  • Lateral Grass Ejection Canal (24): This canal is attached by lifting the lateral impact protection (15) and hooking the canal into place. The lateral impact protection then holds the canal in position. The mulching kit (23) must be inserted and the grass collection box (19) removed before using lateral ejection.
  • Starter Cord (22): To start the engine, pull the safety catch (3) towards the handlebar (1) and hold it. Slowly pull the starter cord from the starter handle (22) towards the handlebar and hook it into the starter cord guide (21). Release the safety catch (3) once the engine starts.
  • Engine Oil Filling and Level Check: The mower must be placed on a level surface. Engine oil (SAE 30 recommended) is poured into the oil tank via the oil filler cap with dipstick (7). The oil level should be between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick. The oil level should be checked before every mowing session.
  • Petrol Filling: Use unleaded normal or super petrol. The petrol tank (8) should be filled outdoors, away from heat sources and open flames, up to the lower edge of the filler neck, but not completely full to allow for expansion.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The mower offers 6 cutting height positions, ranging from 25 to 75 mm. This is adjusted by pulling the lever (18) outwards, moving it to the desired position, and pushing it back in. For ornamental lawns, 25-45 mm is recommended, while for utility lawns, 40-65 mm is suggested. A higher cutting height is recommended for the first cut of the season.
  • Front Wheel Adjustment: The front wheels are designed for flexibility and maneuverability. They can be fixed in a specific direction by engaging the clamping brackets (28) or allowed to move freely by lifting the brackets and resting them beside the plate.
  • Self-Propelling Mechanism: Engaged by pressing the safety loop (3) on the handle (1) and simultaneously pulling the drive bracket (2) until it clicks. Releasing the safety loop (3) stops forward movement. To disengage self-propelling without stopping the engine, slightly release the safety loop until it decouples.
  • Working Instructions: Mow dry grass to protect the turf. Adjust cutting depth to avoid overloading the engine. Mow in straight lines, overlapping by a few centimeters for an even cut. Avoid moving backwards. On slopes, always work across the slope. Stop the cutting tool immediately if it contacts a foreign object and check for damage.

Maintenance Features

  • General Cleaning: Keep the equipment clean using a brush or cloth, avoiding corrosive cleaning agents or solvents. Do not use water to clean the engine. Plant remains should be removed from the blade housing, ventilation openings, and ejection hole after mowing. The blade housing (29) can be connected to a hose for cleaning.
  • Air Filter Replacement: The air filter (13) should be replaced if dirty or defective. Operating the mower without an air filter can damage the engine.
  • Spark Plug Change/Adjustment: Worn spark plugs or an incorrect spark gap (0.75 mm recommended) can reduce engine performance. The spark plug (30) should be cleaned with a wire brush or replaced if damaged. The spark gap can be adjusted by carefully bending the ground electrode.
  • Engine Oil Change: The engine oil should be changed after the first 5 operating hours, then every 50 operating hours or annually. The oil should be changed when the engine is warm. To drain the oil, tilt the equipment backward via the handlebar. Used oil must be disposed of environmentally.
  • Bowden Cable Adjustment: If the Bowden cable (32) for the drive has too much play, it can be adjusted by loosening the lock nut (31) and turning the adjusting nut (32) clockwise to lengthen or anticlockwise to shorten.
  • Blade Sharpening/Replacement: Blunt blades should be sharpened by a specialist workshop to ensure balance. Damaged or imbalanced blades must be replaced by a specialist to prevent serious injury.
  • Carburettor Adjustment: The carburettor is factory-preset for optimal performance. Any subsequent adjustments should be performed by a specialist.
  • Storage: Before storing, clean and service the equipment. Allow the engine to cool down before storing in enclosed areas. Store petrol in suitable containers. For long-term storage, the petrol tank should be emptied (unless a fuel stabilizer is used), and the carburettor should be run dry. The engine should be preserved by pouring a tablespoon of engine oil into the spark plug hole and slowly pulling the starter cord to distribute the oil. The handlebar can be folded down for space-saving storage.
