What to do if the safety valve leaks steam on a Groen DEE?

  If the safety valve on your Groen Kettle is leaking a small amount of steam during operation, it could be due to contamination preventing the valve from seating properly. To resolve this, with full pressure in the jacket, briefly pull the lever all the way to blow the valve clean, then let the lever snap back to seat the valve. Alternatively, the safety valve may be defective and need replacement with an identical valve.

Why is my Groen DEE not heating but the indicator light is on?

  If your Groen Kettle is not heating, but the heating indicator is on, there might be air in the jacket. Refer to the 'Jacket Vacuum' section in the Maintenance part of the manual. Also, check the contactor. Finally, test the heater elements with an ohmmeter for a ground short or an open element. If the element is defective, contact Groen.

  If your Groen Kettle is not heating and the heating indicator is off, check the following: * Electric power supply to the unit. * Water level in jacket. * Control circuit fuses (replace a blown fuse only with a fuse of the same AMP rating). * Loose or broken wires. * Tilt cut-off switch. * Whether the pressure switch is open. * Operation of variable thermostat. * Low water cutoff.

  If the safety valve pops on your Groen Kettle, check for the following: * Air in the jacket. Refer to the 'Jacket Vacuum' section in the 'Maintenance' section of the manual. * Whether the kettle was being heated empty when the valve popped. * Pressure switch setting. * Thermostat operation (the thermostat should click when the dial is rotated above and below the setting for the temperature of the kettle). * Safety valve (if the valve pops at pressures below 48 PSI, replace it). * Contactor, to determine whether it is de-energized.

  If your Groen Kettle continues heating after reaching the desired temperature, check the following: * Thermostat dial setting. * Thermostat circuit for a short. * Thermostat operation (the thermostat should click when the dial is rotated above and below the setting for the temperature of the kettle). * Contactor, to determine whether it is energized or stuck.
