OPERATION
INSTALLING/REMOVING BATTERY PACK
See Figure 10.
Raisethebatterycover.
Align raised ribs on battery pack with grooves in the
batteryportandinstallthebatterypackintothemower.
WARNING:
Make sure the latch on the bottom of the battery pack
snaps in place and the battery pack is fully seated and
secure in the mower’s battery port before beginning op-
eration.Failuretosecurelyseatthebatterypackcould
cause the battery pack to fall out, resulting in serious
personalinjury.
Lowerthebatterycover.
To remove battery pack:
Raisethebatterycover.
Pressandholdthebatterylatchbuttonatthebottomof
thebatterypack.
Removebatterypackfromthemower.
Forcompletecharginginstructions,refertotheOperator’s
ManualsforyourHARTbatterypackandchargermodels.
WARNING:
Toavoidaccidentalstartingthatcouldresultinserious
personalinjury,alwaysremovethestartkeywhenmoving
ortransportingthemower.
NOTE: Thebatterystoragecompartmentoffersaconvenient
place for storing your battery, or to store an extra battery
pack.Theunitcannotbepoweredbythebatterywhileit
is installed in the battery storage compartment; it must be
movedtothebatteryportinordertopowertheunitfrom
thebatteryport.
STARTING/STOPPING THE MOWER

Raisethebatterycover.
Installbatterypackintothebatteryport.
Insert the start key into the slot beside the battery storage
compartment.
Lowerthebatterycover.
Raisethehandleassemblyasdescribedearlier.
NOTE: The mower will not start if the handle assembly
isnotintheoperatingposition.
Pullthebailtowardthehandle.Pressandreleasethe
startbuttontostartthemower.
NOTE: The blades will also start if the bail is pulled first
and thestartbuttonispressedafter.
Tostopthemower,releasethebail.
SELF-PROPELLED MOWING
See Figure 12.
WARNING:
Neverengagethebladeswhentransportingthemower
fromonelocationtoanother.Onlyengagethebladesby
pressingthestartbuttonwhenyouarereadytomow.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious
personalinjury.
Once the mower has been started, the self-propelled
featureisengagedbypullingoneorbothofthelevers
upwardtomeetthehandle.
To disengage the self-propelled feature, release the
levers.
NOTE: The self-propelled levers can be used without
engaging the blade to power the mower from one location
toanother.Youmustpullthebailandthenoneorboth
leverstomovethemowerwithoutengagingtheblade.
CRUISE CONTROL

WARNING:
Alwaysadjustthecruisecontrolbeforeyouengagethe
blade.Adjustingthecruisecontrolwhilemowingmay
cause you to lose control and could result in serious
injurywhilethebladeisoperating.
WARNING:
Whenusingtheself-propelledfeature,ensurethatthe
cruise control is set at a speed that you can comfort-
ablyfollowwhenwalkingbehindthemower.Youmay
lose control of the mower if the cruise control is set at
aspeedthatistoofastforyourwalkingpace.Release
the self-propel levers and bail if you cannot keep up
withthemowerandadjustthecruisecontrolasneeded.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious
personalinjury.
By sliding the cruise control button on the handle, you can
adjust the speed of the mower to accommodate your pace
whentheself-propelledfeatureisengaged.
MOWING TIPS
WARNING:
Do not mow on wet grass, which can cause you to slip
andfallandresultinpossibleseriouspersonalinjury.
Make sure the lawn is clear of stones, tree nuts, sticks,
wires, and other objects that could damage the lawn
mower blades or motor. Do not mow over property
stakesorothermetalposts.Suchobjectscoulddam-
age the blade or be accidentally thrown by the mower
in any direction and cause serious personal injury to the
operatorandothers.
For a healthy lawn, always cut off one-third or less of the
totallengthofthegrass.
