Why can't I get my Heatilator EL36 fire started?

  If you're having trouble starting a fire in your Heatilator Indoor Fireplace, there might be several reasons. You may not be using enough kindling or paper, or the kindling and wood might not be arranged to allow for proper air movement. Ensure you are using dry kindling and more paper, and arrange the kindling and wood to allow air to circulate. Also, make sure to establish a bed of coals before adding wood, using paper and kindling to do so. Inspect the chimney for creosote and have it cleaned by a certified chimney sweep if there is a flue blockage, such as from birds’ nests or leaves in the termination cap. Pre-warm the flue before starting the fire and use dry, seasoned wood. Check for a restricted cap/shroud and check for flue blockage.

What to do if my Heatilator EL36 fire burns too fast?

  If your Heatilator Indoor Fireplace fire is burning too fast, it could be due to extremely dry or soft wood; try mixing in hardwood. Also, overdrafting can cause the fire to burn too fast; check for correct vent height, as too much vertical height creates overdrafting. You can add glass doors to slow down the airflow.
