Overview

The Hegel H190v is an integrated amplifier designed to deliver high-quality audio with a focus on minimal distortion and noise. It combines powerful amplification with a range of connectivity and streaming features, making it a versatile hub for various audio setups.

Function Description

The H190v serves as a central component in an audio system, integrating a preamplifier, power amplifier, and a phono stage into a single unit. Its primary function is to amplify audio signals from various sources and drive loudspeakers, while also offering a dedicated headphone output. The amplifier incorporates Hegel's SoundEngine2 error-canceling technology, which aims to preserve the original music signal's details and dynamic range by preventing distortion. It also features a high damping factor, enabling it to effectively drive a wide range of loudspeakers.

Beyond traditional amplification, the H190v includes extensive digital and network capabilities. It supports various streaming solutions like Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay, and is Roon Ready, allowing users to stream music from a multitude of sources. It also functions as a UPnP/DLNA digital media renderer, facilitating streaming from locally stored files or other streaming services. The built-in phono preamplifier, a scaled-down version of Hegel's V10 phono stage, allows for direct connection of turntables with Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges.

Usage Features

The H190v offers user-friendly operation through its front panel controls (input and volume selectors) and the included RC8 remote control. The remote provides comprehensive control over source selection, volume, mute, power, and playback functions for compatible media players.

A key feature is the device menu, accessible by holding the COMPUTER PLAY button for 5 seconds. This menu allows users to configure various settings, including:

  • Info: Displays hardware and software versions.
  • Network: Shows network device name and IP address.
  • Update: Checks for and downloads software updates.
  • Sleep/Auto Standby: Configurable auto-off timer (default 15 minutes without signal or with very low signal). A small light on the display indicates standby mode.
  • Volume: Adjusts maximum and startup volume levels.
  • Remotes: Enables control via common TV remotes (Samsung, Sony, LG, Philips IR and Smart TV remotes) for power and volume, and allows configuration of automatic input selection and power-on.
  • HT (Home Theater): Most inputs can be configured as Home Theater inputs, setting the input volume to a fixed high level. This is intended for sources with their own volume control.
  • Reset: Resets the product to default factory settings without affecting firmware updates.

The amplifier's network connectivity is crucial for its streaming features. It connects to a local network via an Ethernet cable (LAN - RJ45) to a router. Users can access a Network Configuration page by entering the amplifier's IP address in a browser to change network name and IP settings.

The headphone output (6.3mm jack on the front) automatically activates headphone volume control and mutes speaker outputs when connected.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: The amplifier should be unplugged from the AC outlet before cleaning. Fingerprints or stains can be removed with a lightly damped cloth and a mild detergent suitable for cleaning mirrors and windows.
  • Cooling and Placement: For proper cooling, the H190v must be placed on a flat, hard surface, not on carpet or similar surfaces that obstruct airflow. A minimum of 10 cm clearance from the rear, top, and side panels is required, with the front side left open. The amplifier will automatically switch off if overheated and restart with volume at 0 once cooled.
  • Powering On/Off: After switching off, a 30-second wait is recommended before powering it on again.
  • Software Updates: The device menu allows checking for and downloading the newest software, ensuring the amplifier stays up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.
  • Warranty: All Hegel products come with a 2-year warranty against defective materials and workmanship, limited to the region of purchase. No registration is required; the purchase receipt serves as proof of warranty.
  • Repair: Only certified technicians should open or service Hegel products to avoid electric shock, damage, or personal injury. Opening the product by unauthorized personnel voids the warranty.
