7 SCSI Enclosure Services
The following chapter describes the overall functionality of SES within the 4U60 Storage Enclosure.
7.1 SCSI Enclosure Services
The 4U60 Storage Enclosure provides enclosure management capabilities in-band through the MiniSAS HD
ports using the SCSI Enclosure Services 3 (SES-3). The management functions are performed with SCSI
commands, which are targeted at the Input/Ouput controller’s embedded SCSI Enclosure Processor (SEP)
device. The 4U60 Storage Enclosure SES command set allows management clients to observe and control
the functionality of the enclosure itself, as well as various management entities associated with the enclosure,
including the embedded controller, disk drives, power supplies, fans, and connectors.
