Overview

The Honeywell Home EW600 Series comprises heat and chilled water meters, optionally equipped with an RF communication module, designed for centralized recording of heat or cooling energy consumption. These devices are intended for professional installation by qualified and trained experts in technical building installations, adhering to prescribed assembly guidelines and local regulations.

Function Description:

The EW600 Series meters measure heating water or heating water with glycol additives, depending on their specific design. They serve as a central unit for recording energy consumption and, when equipped with an RF communication module (EWA600C-RF), transmit this data to a readout system for walk-by or AMR (Automated Meter Reading) applications in both S-mode (868.30 +/- 0.30 MHz) and C-mode (868.95 +/- 0.25 MHz). Models with an M-Bus interface (EW6001BK) act as a communication hub, transmitting measured values to an M-Bus control unit. These M-Bus models also feature two impulse inputs, allowing them to record and transmit impulses from one or two water meters with Reed contact impulse output to the M-Bus central unit.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Temperature Sensors: 5.2 x 45 mm, designed for direct immersion in ball valves, T-pieces, or immersion sleeves. Sensor ends must reach at least the center of the pipe cross-section.
  • Mounting Lengths:
    • EW6001...: DN15 (mounting length 110 mm)
    • EW6001...: DN20 (mounting length 130 mm)
  • Tightening Torque: Max. 45 Nm for screw fittings with new seals.
  • RF Communication Module (EWA600C-RF):
    • Radio Frequency: S-mode (868.30 +/- 0.30 MHz), C-mode (868.95 +/- 0.25 MHz)
    • Transmission Power: Max. 10 dBm
    • Installation: Can be installed up to 40 cm away from the flow sensor using an optional wall bracket (EWA600C-WM).
  • M-Bus Interface (EW6001BK):
    • Impulse Inputs: 2 inputs for water meters with Reed contact output.
    • Pin Assignment: Impulse input 1 (Pin 1: orange, Pin 2: brown), Impulse input 2 (Pin 1: red, Pin 2: black). M-Bus (Pin 1: orange (not occupied), Pin 2: brown (not occupied), Pin 3: red, Pin 4: black).
    • Installation: M-Bus cable installation must comply with EN 13757-2.
  • Battery: Equipped with a lithium battery, classified as hazardous material. Safe handling according to manufacturer parameters is crucial.
  • Protection Class: Designed according to Protection Class III.
  • Display: Always off by default (sleep mode) to conserve power.
  • Measurement Units: Configurable for kWh ↔ MWh or MJ ↔ GJ for heat/cold, and L ↔ m³ for impulse inputs. Impulse values can be set to 10 L/Imp ↔ 1 L/Imp.
  • Filter Adaptation: Options for "No reduction of the scanning rate" or "Reduction of the scanning rate."

Usage Features:

  • Display Navigation:
    • Briefly pressing the or key activates the fast readout display loop, showing the current consumption value. The display returns to sleep mode after 10 repetitions.
    • Pressing the or key for longer than 3 seconds accesses the level operating scheme, allowing navigation through various display levels (L0-L9).
  • Display Levels:
    • L0 (Actu): Current consumption values (standard level).
    • L1 (Annu): Annual consumption values (standard level).
    • L2 (Curr): Current values (available in all device versions, individually switchable off).
    • L3 (Para): Parameters (available in all device versions, individually switchable off).
    • L4 (Conn): Connections (only with integrated communication interfaces, not displayed with add-on modules, individually switchable off).
    • L5 (Heat): Monthly heat values (only with heat metering, not for devices with add-on modules, individually switchable off).
    • L6 (Cool): Monthly cold values (only with cold metering, individually switchable off).
    • L7 (Pul1): Monthly impulse input 1 values (only with impulse inputs, individually switchable off).
    • L8 (Pul2): Monthly impulse input 2 values (only with impulse inputs, individually switchable off).
    • L9 (High): Maximum values (available in all device versions, individually switchable off).
  • Parameter Setting Mode: Activated by entering a PIN (found on the packaging label). Allows configuration of various settings, including:
    • Next due date.
    • Activation/deactivation of display levels.
    • Changing dimensioning units.
    • Switching checksum display on/off.
    • For EW6001BK models: assigning device numbers to impulse inputs, resetting meter numbers (which permanently deletes all counted impulses), setting starting counting statuses, and adapting the filter.
    • For M-Bus integrated devices: setting primary addresses for heat, cold, impulse 1, and impulse 2.
  • M-Bus Data Transmission: Transmits device number, medium/software version, time/date, error status and date, current consumption values (heat/cold, volume), due date and value, and optionally 15 monthly values, flow, capacity, energy, and supply/return flow temperature. For combined heat/cold metering, a virtual second meter with the heat meter's serial number +1 is displayed, assigned as "Cold."
  • Impulse Data Transmission: If water meters are connected, the heat meter transmits their impulse measurement data, including device number, medium/software version, time/date, error status and date, current consumption values, due date (identical to heat meter), due date value, and optionally 15 monthly values.
  • Add-on Radio Module (EWA600C-RF) Features:
    • Mode Change: S-mode and C-mode can be changed using HMA suite software, a PC, and a WFZ.IRDA-USB infrared communication head.
    • Readout Information: Provides current consumption value, due date value, due date, and device status.
    • Installation Telegrams: Triggered after module placement using HMA suite or WFZ.PS, with installation progress shown on the meter display.
    • AMR & Walk-by: Configurable "Customer location" (max. 8 digits), start of transmission, transmission delay, type of readout, and transmission-free days.

Maintenance Features:

  • Sealing: The meter comes with two twister seals to protect the temperature sensors and measuring tube screw fitting from manipulation.
  • Error Messages: The display shows various error codes (e.g., Error 01 for hardware/firmware, Error 06-09 for temperature sensor issues) to aid in troubleshooting.
  • Operating State Display: Provides status information such as communication credit exceeded, operating time expired, incorrect flow direction, or mixed/incorrectly fitted temperature sensors.
  • Module-Specific Error Messages: For add-on modules, errors like "Error 03" (module paired with another meter), "Error 04" (low power/maximum operating duration expired), or "Error 05" (module not initialized/clock wrong) are displayed.
  • Device Replacement: Procedures are outlined for logging off the old meter, performing the replacement, and logging on the new meter in the network.
  • Add-on Radio Module Replacement: The network node does not need reprogramming; the new module reads the device number from the calculator unit and transmits it as before.
  • Disposal: The devices are considered electronic waste (European Guideline 2012/19/EU) and must be disposed of through appropriate channels, adhering to local legislation. Used batteries must be disposed of at dedicated collection points.
