Basic Smoke Control System Operation Concepts of Smoke Control
These steps would be accomplished as follows:
1. Turn ON the stairtower and elevator hoistway fans.
2. CLOSE return dampers for all nonsmoke zones. As an example, if the fire event occured on floor 5, the areas specific to this example
would be floors 1-4 and floors 6-8. This step would involve the closing of 14 dampers.
3. CLOSE supply dampers for the smoke zone (floor 5). This step would involve the closing of 2 dampers.
4. Turn ON both the supply fan and the return fan.
At this point the smoke control system would be fully operational. Section 3 “The SCSSCE” gives specific information on accomplishing
these steps with the SCS-8SCE-8 and associated equipment.
