Turbidity Sensor
Situated in the hose between the circulation motor and heater. It consists of an infrared transmitter
and receiver and it has two function within the dishwasher, identifying the soil level and the presence
of rinse aid. The analogue value it produces is sent to the control module for processing.
During a cycle, e.g. the Pre-rinse, the soil level is measured with the circulation motor running.
Dependent on the soil level determined by the turbidity sensor, the control module alters the cycle by
reducing or increasing cycle times and temperatures of the subsequent stages. the sensor is
calibrated from 0 (dirty water) to 245 (clean water). This is then converted to 10 different soil levels.
The maximum turbidity level is equivalent to the longest cycle while the clearest reading corresponds
to the shortest cycle. If the turbidity sensor detects the pre-rinse water still below a predefined level,
it will perform another pre-rinse.
The table below shows how the water turbidity affects the programme times and wash temperature.
Alternating Wash Valve
The alternating wash valve is fitted to the circulation motor pump housing. It consists of a vane and
a small motor and controls how the water is delivered to the spray arms. The vane acts as a gate
within the pump volute and is moved by the motor as required by the control module. Water is then
pumped to the upper and/or lower spray arms depending on the programme selected or step within
that programme.
The three possible positions of the valve and how the water is delivered to the spray arms are shown
below:
At the beginning of each programme, the machine will find the correct position by resetting the
system. This also serves to avoid starting in the wrong position.
