INTRODUCTION
This Operation Manual is suPplied with the 8756A Operating and
Service Manual as a reference document for the Instrument Operator.
It contains a 1escriotion of the instrument, specifi~ations, and
preparation for use, as well as information on using the 8756A in
both manual and automatic test applications, and shoul~ be kept
with the 8756A.
The convenience and accuracy of the 8756A Scalar Network Analyzer
make it well suited for a variety of bench top and automatic
(HP-IB) test eauioment applications, which may be tailored to your
individual needs.
In OPERATING INFORMATION you will find the information needed to
operate the 8756A in either the local or remote mode. A thorough
understanding of this section will help to eliminate a multitude of
operator errors, and should be the first stop for the operator who
is not already hiahly skilled in the operation of the 8756A.
Following the OPERATING INFORMATION, you will find Operatinq
Note(s) and Programming Notes. An OPerating Note illustrates a
specific apPlication (Basic Network Measurements Usina 8756A Scalar
Network Analyzer and 8350B Sweep Oscillator) of locallv operating
the 8756A. A Programminq Note, on the other hand, apPlies to remote
operation (using an external controller).
Under Programming Notes, the Introductorv Operating Guide focuses
on teaching you how to remotelv program your instrument with a
specific controller. It is meant to be an introduction to the
8756A's remote capabilities, HP-IB, and use of the controller
illustrated. The Quick Reference Guide is controller independent.
It is a condensed descriPtion of the 8756A's HP-IB oPerating
characteristics. Once you are familiar with proaramming the 8756A,
the Quick Reference Guide will provide a summarv of all of the
HP-IB operating information without explanations.
