Web wipe
The Web Wipe Advance mechanism engages/disengages the advance gear of the Printhead Cleaner
Cartridge. The actual advance is achieved by moving the Printhead Cleaner Cartridge once the gear has
been engaged by this mechanism.
Waste subsystem
As the Printhead cleaner Cartridge does not have sufficient
space to contain the waste ink, a separate subsystem provides
the means to hold it. this subsystem works together with the
aerosol collection subsystem.
The main components of this subsystem are:
• Ink funnel: This is the main component of the waste ink
system. Its main function is to separate the main drops
from the aerosol generated when the Printhead spits. The
separation is done by impaction. Using the airflow from
the aerosol filtration, the main drops and aerosol are
accelerated in to a labyrinth path. due to the tight turn radius, the particles of high mass cannot
return and impact on to the funnel wall. collecting them into big droplets that are then collected at
the bottom and into the drain tube to the Printhead Cleaner Container.
• Ducting Assembly: Provides the structure and flow path for aerosol collection, thus providing the
means to accelerate the particles and give the proper collection of ink.
• Duckbill valve. This is a very important component of the ink waste mechanism. It is a one way air
valve, so that air cannot return back up the drain tube. This can cause an adverse condition in the
waste duct, where bubbles form and then the aerosol filter may become clogged long before its
expected end of life.
• Printhead Cleaner Container: This is a foam filled container to hold the waste ink. It is designed to
hold a maximum of 3.3 liters of ink, and not to leak its contents in any position.
