Change hydraulic system filter element and oil after first 50
hours of mower operation, then replace filter and oil in
reservoir annually or every 500 hours whichever comes first.
IMPORTANT: It is necessary to drain the system oil from
the hydraulic reservoir, using the reservoir drain plug, before
removing the hydraulic filter. Replace the drain plug before
adding system oil.
The Super 104™ hydraulic system filter is located inside
the hydraulic reservoir on the underneath side of the tank.

approved filter element only. When changing
the filter use a 15/16” socket. The threads are right hand.

Checking the Deck Lift Circuit Pressure
Equipment Required:
Hustler

Pressure Test Gauge Kit, part number 601661 or
Gauge, part number 607464
NOTE: If Pressure Test Gauge Kit (601661) is not available
use Gauge (607464).
Use this procedure when checking the relief setting of the
deck lift circuit.
1. With an operator on the seat, place the steering control
levers in the park brake position, start the engine, and
lower the main deck and side decks.
2. Shut the engine off.
3. Place an oil pan under the hydraulic lift manifold
block.
4. With an operator on the seat, start the engine, and
cycle the side decks up and down several times to
bleed the air from the system. Shut the engine off.
5. Remove the gauge port cap at the rear of the hydraulic
lift manifold block. Figure 4-17

Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure may have
sufficient force to penetrate skin and cause serious
injury. Foreign fluid injected into the skin must be
surgically removed within a few hours by a doctor,
familiar with this form of injury, or gangrene may
result.
Before applying pressure to hydraulic system, make
sure all connections are tight and all hoses and lines
are in good condition. To find a leak under pressure,
use a piece of cardboard or wood — never use your
hands. Relieve all pressure in the system before
disconnecting or working on hydraulic lines. To
relieve pressure, lower all attachments and shut off
engine.
