Translation
Translation is the process of redefining the physical parameters of a hard disk drive to
parameters compatible with the BIOS and operating system of a computer.
Ultra ATA
Ultra ATA (also known as Ultra DMA) is a data transfer protocol for transferring data to and from
main memory without passing it through the processor. Ultra ATA differs from traditional DMA by
using a strobe signal to latch data at twice the data rate. Ultra ATA improves speed and
efficiency by allowing the processor to perform other operations while data is retrieved from the
drive.
UNIX
UNIX is an operating system developed for multitasking in a multi-user environment. The UNIX
operating system was originally developed for use on minicomputers but has been adapted for
mainframes, microcomputers, and PCs.
Windows NT
Windows NT is Microsofts 32-bit New Technology operating system. Windows NT 3.5 and 4.0
support FAT16 and NTFS (New Technology File System). Windows NT 4.0 does not support
FAT32.
