Instructions for Models 800 and 810
1. If the system has logical partitions, perform this procedure only from the primary partition’s console
and the system control panel. To determine if the system has logical partitions, go to Determine if the
system has logical partitions, before continuing with this procedure.
2. Verify that your system unit power supply is functioning properly:
a. Disconnect the ac power cable from the system unit you are working on. On a system Model 800
or 810 with FC 7116, disconnect both the system unit line cord and the expansion unit line cord.
b. Disconnect all of the connectors from the power supply.
c. Reconnect the ac power cable(s).
d. Using an appropriate instrument, push and hold down the button adjacent to the LED on the
system unit power supply. Does the power supply (green) LED number 1, next to the switch
button, blink slowly or show a steady green light?
v No: Replace the power supply. See symbolic FRU “PWRSPLY” on page 431.
This ends the procedure.
v Yes: The power supply is functioning normally. Continue with the next step.
3. Perform the following:
a. Disconnect the ac power cable from the unit you are working on. On a system Model 800 or 810
with an FC 7116, disconnect both the system unit line cord and the expansion unit line cord.
b. Reconnect the connectors to your power supply that you removed in the previous step.
c. Disconnect all of the I/O devices (tape, diskette, optical, and disk units) by sliding them partially
out of the system unit. See the Remove and replace procedures for the model you are working
on.
d. Remove and label all cards that are installed in the system unit.
e. Reconnect the ac power cable(s) to the unit you are working on.
f. Power on the system.
Does
a power reference code occur?
v No: Go to step 7 (See page 157).
v Yes: Continue with the next step.
4. Perform the following:
a. Remove one of the AMDs from the system unit that was not previously removed during this
procedure. Disregard an AMD SRC if it occurs during this step.
b. Power on the system.
Does a power reference code occur?
v No: The AMD you removed in this step is the failing item.
This
ends the procedure.
v Yes: Continue with the next step.
5. Have you removed all of the AMDs one at a time?
v Yes: Install all of the AMDs, and continue with the next step.
v No: Perform the following:
a. Power off the system.
