Users can control the central heating temperature, switch the boiler on or off, and monitor system pressure. The boiler also incorporates frost protection, automatically firing if the temperature drops below 5°C to prevent damage. In the event of overheating or low water pressure, the boiler will shut down and display a lockout message, indicating the need for user intervention or professional assistance.
Usage Features
The Vogue Max System IE offers several features designed for ease of use and optimal performance:
- Ignition and Operation: To light the boiler, users need to switch on the electricity, ensure external controls (programmer, room thermostat) are active, set the central heating temperature control to 'max', and turn the "off/on" control to "on". The boiler will then initiate its ignition sequence. During normal operation, the burner-on indicator will illuminate.
- Central Heating Control: The central heating radiator temperature can be adjusted via the Central Heating Temperature Control knob (D), with a range from 30°C (minimum) to 80°C (maximum). When external heating controls call for heat, and the boiler is set to 'on', it will provide heat to the system. If a cylinder thermostat is present, the boiler will also heat the stored hot water, directing flow to the central heating circuit once the cylinder thermostat is satisfied.
- Weather Compensation (if fitted): If a weather compensation option is installed, the Central Heating Temperature Control knob (D) becomes a means of controlling room temperature. Turning the knob clockwise increases room temperature, and anti-clockwise decreases it. Once the desired setting is achieved, the system automatically adjusts to outside weather conditions.
- Boiler Restart: In case of a shutdown, the boiler can be restarted by pressing the "RESTART" hot key below the colour screen. The appliance will then repeat its ignition sequence if there is a heat demand.
- Frost Protection: The boiler includes a built-in frost protection feature. If the temperature falls below 5°C, the boiler will fire to protect itself from frost damage. For short absences during cold weather, it is recommended to leave heating controls at a reduced temperature setting. For longer periods, the entire system should be drained. If a frost thermostat is installed, the timer can be left off, but the mains supply should remain ON with the boiler thermostat in the normal running position.
- System Pressure Monitoring: A pressure gauge (F) indicates the central heating system pressure. If the pressure drops below 1.0 & 1.5 bar, a "LOW WATER PRESSURE" message will be displayed, and the boiler will not operate if the pressure falls below 0.5 bar. Users are instructed to re-pressurize the system via the filling loop to between 1.0 & 1.5 bar and then press "RESTART".
- Display Functions: The colour screen displays various operational statuses, including "OFF" (boiler switched off), "ON" with temperature (boiler heating radiators or hot water cylinder), and "READY" (timer off or room/cylinder stats satisfied). With an outside sensor, the display can show separate statuses for hot water and central heating, including radiator temperature. It also indicates when boiler frost protection is active and when a service is due.
- Change Settings (Basic): Users can adjust the maximum boiler temperature by rotating the boiler temperature control (D). The screen will show the selected temperature. Central heating frost protection can be disabled by turning the On/Off switch (E) to the Off position. If an outside sensor is connected, the room temperature set point can be changed by rotating the boiler temperature control (D).
- Menu Operation: The boiler's menu allows users to view the efficiency level, which is displayed as a percentage. This can be accessed by pressing the "MENU" button and selecting "SHOW EFFICIENCY LEVEL".
Maintenance Features
The Vogue Max System IE is designed with maintenance in mind, ensuring longevity and continued efficiency:
- Regular Servicing: The appliance should be serviced at least once a year by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer (or a Registered Gas Installer in IE). This is crucial for maintaining safety and efficiency, as supported by the Benchmark scheme. The boiler display will indicate when a service is due.
- Reset Service Time: After a service, the service interval message can be reset through the menu. Users navigate to "CHANGE SERVICE INTERVAL", select it, and then adjust the number of days until the next service is due.
- Condensate Drain Maintenance: The siphonic condensate trap system reduces the risk of freezing. However, if the condensate pipe freezes, users are provided with instructions to unblock it, which involves locating the blockage and applying warm water (not boiling) to thaw it. If the blockage persists or the appliance fails to ignite after thawing, a Gas Safe Registered Engineer should be called. Preventative solutions include setting the boiler thermostat to maximum during cold weather and keeping the heating on continuously with the room thermostat set to 15°C overnight or when unoccupied.
- Cleaning: For general cleaning, the boiler casing can be dusted with a dry cloth. Stubborn marks can be wiped with a damp cloth and then dried. Abrasive cleaning materials should not be used.
- Fault Finding: The boiler's display provides fault descriptions and suggested corrective actions, such as "IGNITION LOCKOUT" or "OVERHEAT LOCKOUT". For issues like "Hot water works OK but no central heating" or "Blank boiler display", the manual offers troubleshooting steps. If "Too many restarts" occurs (5 boiler faults reset within 15 minutes), it is recommended to consult a qualified service engineer.
- Spare Parts: When replacing any part, it is essential to use only original manufacturer's spare parts to ensure conformity with safety and performance specifications. Reconditioned or copy parts not authorized by Ideal Heating should not be used.
