Overview

This document is a user guide for the Ideal Mini series of boilers, including models C24, C28, C32, S24, and S28. It provides essential information for users on the operation, safety, and basic troubleshooting of these wall-mounted, room-sealed, non-condensing gas boilers. The Mini C models are low water content combination gas boilers, while the Mini S models are low water content system gas boilers. All models feature a full sequence automatic spark ignition and fan-assisted combustion, designed for efficiency and ease of use.

Function Description

The Ideal Mini boilers are designed to provide either central heating (CH) and domestic hot water (DHW) for combination models (C24, C28, C32) or central heating only for system models (S24, S28). The appliance operates by burning gas to heat water, which is then circulated through the central heating system or supplied as hot water for domestic use.

The boiler's operation is managed through a set of controls located on the front panel. These include an appliance operation lamp (A) that indicates the boiler's status, a domestic hot water temperature control (B) for combination models or a service knob for system models, a main switch and radiator temperature control (C), a boiler reset button (D), a lock-out signal lamp (E), an optional programmer (F) for combination models, and a system pressure and temperature gauge (G).

For combination models, the DHW temperature can be adjusted independently of the CH circuit. The integrated adjustment system automatically controls the gas flow to the burner to maintain a constant DHW temperature within the maximum and minimum output limits. This feature helps to optimize gas consumption and minimize the need to mix hot water with cold water.

The boilers are equipped with a built-in anti-freeze system, which activates the boiler when the temperature drops below 5°C. This is a crucial safety feature that prevents freezing and potential damage to the appliance, especially in cold weather. Users are advised not to isolate the boiler from the electricity supply or close the gas inlet cock if the boiler is not in use during cold periods, to allow the anti-freeze system to function.

Usage Features

To light the boiler, users must first ensure that the valves in the lower part of the boiler are open and then switch on the electricity supply. The appliance operation lamps (A) will flash every 4 seconds, indicating a stand-by condition. For combination models, the main switch (C) should be positioned for both CH and DHW operation, causing the 'On' lamp (A) to flash every 2 seconds, signifying operating status. For system models, positioning the main switch (C) to operate the boiler will also result in the 'On' lamp (A) flashing every 2 seconds.

The central heating water output temperature can be adjusted using knob C, ranging from approximately 38°C to 80°C. For combination models, the domestic hot water temperature can be set between 35°C and 55°C using knob B. Adjusting the DHW temperature to a level that meets demand helps to minimize energy waste and can reduce limescale build-up, especially in areas with hard water. Setting the DHW temperature to around 50°C is recommended to mitigate scale deposits and clogging.

The diagnostic lights on the boiler provide visual feedback on its operational status. Different flashing patterns and combinations of lights indicate normal operation, CH operation, DHW operation, frost protect operation, or a fault condition. If a fault is indicated, users are advised to consult the troubleshooting guide or contact a CORGI registered installer.

For short periods of shutdown, users can turn the boiler off by setting the function selector (C) to the 'O' position. The appliance operation lamps (A) will then flash every 4 seconds. For longer periods, it is recommended to switch off the electricity supply, shut off the gas supply cock and water circuit valves, and if necessary, empty the water circuits. However, it is important to remember not to isolate the boiler from the electricity supply in cold weather due to the anti-freeze system.

The user guide also includes a detailed troubleshooting section for common non-product faults. This section helps users identify and resolve issues such as the boiler not working for central heating or hot water, ignition lockout, continuous fan and pump operation without ignition, or specific issues related to Mini C and Mini S models. For example, if the boiler is not working, users should check for power, system water pressure, and the lockout signal lamp. If hot water is available but no heating, the programmer and room thermostat should be checked. If heating is available but no hot water, the cold water flow rate and stop valves should be inspected.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of the Ideal Mini boiler. The appliance should be serviced at least once a year by a CORGI registered installer. This ensures that the boiler continues to meet safety and performance specifications.

For normal cleaning, users can simply dust the boiler with a dry cloth. For more stubborn marks and stains, a damp cloth and mild detergent can be used. Abrasive cleaning materials should not be used as they may damage the appliance's surface.

The document emphasizes the importance of using only genuine spare parts that conform to Ideal Boilers' safety and performance specifications when replacing any part of the appliance. The use of reconditioned or copy parts not authorized by Ideal Boilers is discouraged.

The Benchmark Service Interval Record, located at the reverse of the book, must be completed after each service. This record helps to track the maintenance history of the central heating system, promoting safety and efficiency.

The guide also provides a consumer helpline number and website for Ideal Boilers, encouraging users to contact them for assistance. It also highlights Ideal Stelrad Group's commitment to continuous improvement in product design and performance, reserving the right to vary specifications without notice.

In summary, the Ideal Mini user guide is a comprehensive resource designed to empower users with the knowledge needed to operate and maintain their boilers effectively, ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity of the appliance.
