Overview

The provided document is an installation guide for the IKEA SKYTTA sliding door system.

Function Description

The IKEA SKYTTA sliding door system is designed to create flexible storage solutions or room dividers within a home. It allows users to optimize their living space by creating reach-in wardrobes, walk-in wardrobes, or separating rooms. The system is designed to run between the ceiling and floor and from wall to wall, eliminating the need for traditional wardrobe frames. It is compatible with various IKEA storage systems and can also be used with existing non-IKEA solutions, provided measurements are carefully checked for compatibility. The SKYTTA system offers customization through different door frame and rail colors, which can be combined with panels from the PAX range to achieve a personalized aesthetic, ranging from sleek and minimalistic to industrial-looking glass doors.

Important Technical Specifications

The SKYTTA system accommodates various ceiling heights and room configurations. Key measurements are critical for proper installation. The installation guide specifies different height options for the doors and the overall system:

  • Normal Assembly (Doors fit perfectly):
    • Floor to ceiling distance: 2039-2051 mm or 2391-2403 mm.
  • Small space above the system (Reduce ceiling height with distance pieces - not sold by IKEA):
    • Floor to ceiling distance: 2052-2095 mm (low door) or 2404-2447 mm (high door).
  • Large space above the door (Reduce ceiling height with SKYTTA ceiling height reducer and cover panels):
    • Floor to ceiling distance: 2075-2410 mm or 2427-2762 mm.
  • Doors too high (Reduce door height by cutting door frame and panel):
    • Floor to ceiling distance: 1500-2038 mm or 1500-2390 mm.
    • Important Note: Cutting is not possible for glass or mirror panels due to tempering, which would cause them to shatter. Users must check the planning tool for other panels that cannot be cut. This step requires professional tools and expertise.

For track/rail placement, a distance of 100 mm is required from the front of the storage solution to the front of the track/rails for a 2-track solution, and 140 mm for a 3-track solution. The system allows for adjustment if the floor is uneven (0-2 mm per 1 m) or if the wall is uneven (0-3 mm per 1 m) for the stop bar.

  1. Wood beam
  2. Flange screws

Usage Features

The SKYTTA system is designed for ease of use and customization:

  • Versatile Application: Can be used as a reach-in wardrobe, walk-in wardrobe, or room divider.
  • Compatibility: Works with IKEA storage systems and can be adapted for non-IKEA solutions.
  • Customization: Door frames and rails are available in three colors and can be combined with PAX panels for personalized style.
  • Soft Close Mechanism: Includes soft close and soft-closing activators for smooth and quiet door operation. These are mounted into the rail before the last ceiling rail is installed, with specific placement instructions based on the planning tool (two mechanisms and an end activator for doors closest to the wall, one soft closing and one activator for middle doors).
  • Adjustable Door Height: The wheel fitting's height can be adjusted to fine-tune the gap between doors and the wall (+/-2 mm per wheel).
  • Home Position for Middle Doors: For doors that close in the middle (not against a wall), a home position feature works with the door guide and activator to ensure proper alignment.

Maintenance Features

While the guide primarily focuses on installation, it includes a few points relevant to maintenance:

  • Floor Rail Cleaning: It is recommended to clean the floor rail regularly before mounting and during use, as dust can get stuck on the wheels, affecting the smooth sliding of the doors.
  • Adjustments for Uneven Surfaces: The system is designed to accommodate minor unevenness in the floor (0-2 mm per 1 m) and walls (0-3 mm per 1 m), allowing for adjustments to maintain proper alignment and function.
  • Professional Assistance: For complex tasks like cutting door frames and panels (especially for sloped ceilings or reducing door height), the guide strongly recommends seeking help from a professional carpenter with appropriate tools, as these steps require specific skills and can be irreversible if done incorrectly. This also ensures the longevity and proper functioning of the system.
