Overview

The InfiRay Outdoor EYE III Series Thermal Imaging Monocular is a versatile device designed for outdoor use, capable of displaying heat signatures for nature observation, remote hunting observations, and civil applications. It operates effectively day or night, and in harsh weather conditions such as rain, snow, fog, and haze, without being affected by strong external light. The monocular can even detect targets hidden behind obstacles like branches, grass, and shrubs. Its compact size, single-hand operation, and rich feature set make it comfortable and convenient for various outdoor scenarios.

Function Description

The EYE III series monocular is equipped with a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery, offering up to 8 hours of operation. For first-time use, a full charge is recommended. The device features a magnetic charge design, allowing for easy connection of the magnetic data cable to the magnetic port. In bumpy environments, users can opt to use a standard Type C cable for charging by pulling out the magnetic connector. A power indicator light (red when charging, green when fully charged) and a lighting icon on the display provide clear charging status. When the battery icon turns red during use, it indicates a low power level, prompting the user to charge the device to prevent data loss.

The device supports both photography and video recording, saving observed images and videos to its built-in 32GB memory. Files are named with timestamps, so synchronizing the date and time via the InfiRay Outdoor application is suggested for better organization. Photos are taken by long-pressing the Camera button, while video recording is initiated and stopped with a short press. During recording, users can still take photos and perform other operations. The maximum duration for a single video recording file is 30 minutes, after which a new file is automatically created. Users should regularly check the remaining memory space and transfer files to other media as needed.

Image calibration is a key function to improve image quality when it appears degraded or uneven. This process equalizes the background temperature of the detector and eliminates defects such as vertical bars or phantom images. The EYE III series offers two calibration modes: Auto Calibration and Background Calibration. Auto Calibration operates automatically based on a software algorithm and does not require closing the lens cover. Background Calibration is performed by closing the lens cap, which triggers an automatic calibration.

The device also features a digital zoom function, allowing users to quickly increase magnification from 1.5x up to 4x, and return to the basic 1x magnification. This is controlled by rotating the Controller clockwise for zoom-in and anticlockwise for zoom-out, with the current magnification displayed in the status bar.

Connectivity is enhanced with built-in Wi-Fi and Interconnection functions. The Wi-Fi function allows the monocular to connect with mobile devices (laptops or smartphones) for data transmission and control via the InfiRay Outdoor App. The Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password can be reset through the app. The Interconnection function enables two EYE III devices to connect manually, with one acting as a data sender and the other as a receiver, displaying the sender's screen image on the receiver.

The device also supports firmware updates, with notifications posted on the official website, social media, or the InfiRay Outdoor APP. Users can download update files and store them in a designated "update" folder in the device's memory. The update process is initiated through the main menu, and it is crucial to ensure the device is fully charged before updating.

Usage Features

The EYE III series is designed for ease of use with several intuitive features:

  • Quick Startup/Shutdown: The device can be quickly powered on or off by opening or closing the lens cap. A long press of the Controller also powers it on.
  • Controller Operation: The device is primarily operated with a single hand using the Controller, which simplifies navigation and setting adjustments.
  • Diopter Adjustment: A diopter adjustment knob allows users to fine-tune the resolution of icons on the display, accommodating different degrees of myopia.
  • Shortcut Menu: A short press of the Controller on the home screen brings up a shortcut menu for quick adjustments of image mode (White hot, Black hot, Red hot, Rainbow), scene mode (Forest, Flatland, Focus, City), screen brightness (levels 1-6), and image sharpness (levels 1-4).
  • Main Menu: A long press of the Controller from the home screen accesses the main menu for more advanced functions. Navigation through the menu options is cyclical, and settings can be adjusted by pressing the Controller.
  • Standby Mode: The device can be put into standby mode by a short press of the Camera button during the power-off countdown or by pressing the Camera button twice from the home screen. It automatically shuts down after 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • Ultra-Clear Mode: This mode enhances image contrast, making it suitable for rainy, foggy, and other harsh weather conditions. It can be toggled on/off through the main menu.
  • PIP (Picture-in-Picture) Function: When activated, a small window appears on the screen, displaying a 2x magnified image of the area captured by a blue box in the main view.
  • Microphone: The built-in microphone allows for synchronous collection of sound during video recording. It can be turned on/off via the main menu.
  • Image Hue: Users can switch between warm (softer, eye-protective) and cool (brighter) image hues, though this feature is not applicable in Rainbow mode.
  • Compass: The compass function can be turned on/off and calibrated through the main menu, with the compass displayed in the status bar when active.
  • Language Settings: The device supports five languages: English, German, Russian, Spanish, and Italian, which can be selected from the main menu.
  • Factory Reset: Users can restore the device to its default factory settings via the main menu.
  • Device Information: The "Info" option in the main menu provides details such as product model, SN number, PN number, hardware version, software version, and FPGA version.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is recommended to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the EYE III series monocular:

  • Technical Inspection: Before each use, it is advisable to check for any visible damage to the body, ensure the objective lens and eyepiece are free from cracks, greasy spots, dirt, or other deposits, verify the battery status, and confirm that the controller/buttons are in working order.
  • Cleaning: At least twice a year, the metal and plastic parts should be cleaned with a cotton cloth to remove dust and dirt, potentially using silicone grease. Electric contacts and battery slots should be cleaned with a non-greasy organic solvent. The glass surfaces of the eyepiece and lens should be cleaned using a specialized wiping tool and solvent, preferably with a non-contact method to remove dust and sand.
  • Battery Care: Avoid using damaged or modified chargers. Do not leave the battery unattended while charging or connected to the mains for more than 24 hours after a full charge. Protect the battery from high temperatures and naked flames. Do not disassemble the device to access the battery, as it is not user-replaceable. Charge the device only between 0°C and 50°C to prevent significant reduction in battery life. If bringing the device from a cold to a warm environment, wait 30-40 minutes before charging. For long-term storage, recharge the device every two months to 40%-50% power and store it in a dry, well-ventilated space. Avoid fully charging or discharging the battery if it is to be idled for a long time. Keep the battery out of reach of children.
  • Software Updates: Keeping the firmware updated ensures the device benefits from the latest enhancements and bug fixes. Users should refer to official channels for update notifications and instructions.
