Overview

The Instant® Essentials Air Fryer 4QT is a kitchen appliance designed to cook delicious meals with less oil and hassle compared to traditional deep frying. It utilizes rapid air circulation to crisp or cook food, giving your meals the rich, crispy flavor of deep frying with little to no oil.

Usage Features

The air fryer is designed for simplicity and ease of use, featuring just two control knobs for temperature and time.

Control Panel: The control panel includes:

  • Temperature control knob: This knob allows you to set the cooking temperature. Options include "Off," "Warm" (170°F), and a range from 200°F to 400°F.
  • Time control knob: This knob sets the cooking duration, ranging from 0 minutes to 60 minutes.
  • Power light: Illuminates when the unit is powered on.
  • Heat On light: Illuminates during the cooking process when the heating element is active.

Initial Setup and Test Run: Before first use, the air fryer requires unpacking and cleaning.

  1. Unpack: Remove the air fryer and all packaging materials, including accessories from the cooking chamber. Do not remove safety warning stickers or the rating label.
  2. Clean before use: Wipe the internal cooking chamber and basket with a damp cloth and dry with a clean, soft cloth. Wash the cooking tray with hot water and dish soap, then rinse and dry.
  3. Placement: Place the air fryer on a stable, level surface, away from combustible materials and external heat sources. Ensure at least 5 inches (13 cm) of space around all sides for sufficient airflow. Do not place it on top of another appliance.
  4. Test run: To ensure proper functioning, perform a test run without food.
    • Plug the air fryer into an electrical outlet; the power light will turn on.
    • Insert the air frying basket into the cooker.
    • Rotate the temperature control dial to 400°F.
    • Rotate the time control dial to 15 minutes.
    • The heat on light will turn on.
    • The air fryer will chime when the timer runs out.
    • Allow the unit to cool before proceeding.

Cooking Process:

  1. Prep: Prepare your ingredients by cutting, chopping, seasoning, marinating, or battering them according to your recipe.
  2. Cook:
    • Place your food into the air frying basket.
    • Insert the air frying basket into the cooker, ensuring it is flush with the front of the cooker.
    • Turn the temperature control dial to the desired temperature setting.
    • Turn the time control dial to the desired time setting.
  3. Finish: The air fryer will chime to indicate that cooking is complete.

Safety Precautions during Use:

  • Always use oven mitts when removing hot accessories.
  • Place hot accessories on a heat-resistant surface or cooking plate.
  • Do not cover the basket with foil, as this can cause overheating. If using foil, only place it at the bottom of the cooking basket.
  • Do not move the appliance while it is in use.
  • Do not leave the appliance unattended.
  • Do not use the appliance for more than 60 minutes in a 2-hour period.
  • Keep hands and face away from air vents, as hot air is released during operation.
  • Never place unprotected hands inside the appliance until it has cooled to room temperature.
  • Do not block the air fryer's vents; maintain at least 5 inches (13 cm) of space around it.
  • Do not place the appliance on a stove or near combustible materials.
  • Do not overfill the air fryer, as food may contact the heating element and cause fire.
  • Do not pour oil directly into the cooking container; if needed, spray food lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Use caution with cooking containers made of materials other than metal or glass.
  • If black smoke is emitted, press Cancel, unplug the appliance, wait for smoking to stop, then clean thoroughly.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: It is recommended to clean your Instant® Air Fryer after each use to maintain performance and prevent food buildup. Allow the unit to cool to room temperature before cleaning.

  • Cooking tray: Dishwasher safe. If washing by hand, avoid using metal utensils, steel wool pads, or harsh cleansers, which can damage the non-stick coating.
  • Removable air frying basket: Dishwasher safe. If washing by hand, clean with a damp cloth and mild dish soap. Avoid metal utensils, steel wool pads, or harsh cleansers.
  • Cooking chamber: Clean with a damp cloth and mild dish soap. Always check the heating coil and cooking chamber walls for oil spatter and food debris, and clean as needed. Ensure the heating coil is dry before turning on the air fryer. To remove baked-on grease and food residue, spray with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar, wipe clean with a damp cloth, and for stubborn stains, allow the mixture to sit for several minutes before scrubbing.
  • Exterior of cooker: Clean with a soft, damp cloth or sponge. Wipe dry.
  • Power cord: While the cooker is unplugged, use a barely damp cloth to wipe any particles off the cord.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Air fryer will not turn on: Check if the appliance is properly plugged in and if the outlet is powered. Ensure the air fryer basket is fully inserted.
  • Black smoke is coming from the air fryer: This could be due to using too much oil, food residue on the heating coil, or an appliance malfunction. Unplug the unit, clean thoroughly, and contact customer care if the issue persists.
  • White smoke is coming from the air fryer: This may be caused by cooking foods with high fat content, water vaporizing from moist ingredients, or seasoning on food blowing into the element. Avoid overfilling, ensure ingredients are not excessively moist, and spray food lightly with non-stick spray if needed.

Care and Storage:

  • Allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning or storing.
  • Do not store any materials inside the appliance when not in use.
  • Do not place combustible materials (paper, cardboard, plastic, Styrofoam, wood) in the appliance.
  • Do not clean with metal scouring pads or steel wool, as pieces can break off and cause electrical shock.

Electrical Cautions:

  • Always unplug the appliance when not in use, before cleaning, or before adding/removing parts.
  • Regularly inspect the appliance and power cord for damage.
  • Do not operate if the power cord or plug is damaged, or if the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped.
  • Do not attempt to repair, replace, or modify components, as this voids the warranty and can cause injury.
  • Do not immerse the power cord, plug, or appliance in water or other liquids.
  • Do not rinse the appliance under a tap.
  • Use only in electrical systems of 120 V ~ 60 Hz for North America.
