For models 5988 and 5989 the mains voltage must be in a “WYE” configuration with
neutral and ground. A Delta configuration requires an external Delta-to-Wye
transformer rated to a minimum of 5kVa. A rating of 7.5kVa is recommended.
Power Cord Selections
When you place your order for a 5982, 5984 or 5985 load frame, you can choose the voltage
required and your choice of voltage determines the type of power cord supplied, as follows:
• 200/208V is supplied with an NEMA L6-20P plug
• 220, 230 and 240V is supplied with a IEC 309-16A plug
These power cords are 3 metres (9.8 ft) in length. If you do not make a choice, Instron
chooses the customary voltage that matches the shipping destination for the system.

You must use GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interruption) protection on all power
sources if your testing system includes water or any other fluid.
If your system includes any fluids (e.g. water-cooled grips, BioPuls baths, food testing
fixtures), you must use GFCI protection on all power sources to protect the operator from
fluids that might leak into the load frame electronics.
