Instrument Operation/Start-Up
Power “On/Off”
Press ON/OFF to turn power on. The Ultimax checks the system just after the power is
turned on. Message “System Check” will appear. After “System Check”, display will
show the mode such as REAL; emissivity value, and °F or °C.
Measuring Procedure
Press ON/OFF key to turn the power on. Focus the lens using the adjusting ring until
the image is clear. Adjust the diopter ring to see the collimator mark on the internal
display clearly. You may have to refocus the camera after you have adjusted the diopter
ring. This will assure that you have the smallest spot on the target. Press MEASURE to
start measurement. The temperature is displayed on both the internal and external
display. “OFL” is displayed if the target temperature is higher than the range of the
instrument and “UFL” will be displayed if the target temperature is below the range of
the instrument.
Continuous Measurement
To continuously measure a hot target, press ON/OFF key while pressing the MEASURE
key to turn the power on. Press MEASURE key to start measurement, the
measurement is continuous until MEASURE is pressed again. This feature is turned off
when power is turned off.
To turn unit off, press ON/OFF switch, all parameters are saved.
Auto Power Off
Back light for internal display turns off ten seconds after the last measurement is
taken. On continuous measurements, the backlight turns off after ten seconds of
measuring. To restart the back light, press “ENT”. The instrument power is
automatically turned off after five minutes if no measurements are taken.

Press ON/OFF while pressing MODE. UNIT appears on the Screen. Using the ↑ key,
select °C or F, press ENT. Turn the unit off and then on to begin to take temperature
measurements.
Emissivity
While Ultimax is on, press MODE momentary. “Emi” appears on the screen. Use→ key
to select digit and the ↑ key to change the values of the digit. When correct emissivity is
selected, press ”ENT” to initiate the value selected.
