The iRobot Dirt Dog is a robotic cleaning device designed for hard floor surfaces, particularly in environments like garages or basements. It utilizes iRobot's AWARE™ Robot Intelligence System to determine optimal cleaning paths and employs a patented 3-stage cleaning system.

Function Description:

The Dirt Dog is an autonomous robot that cleans hard floors by employing various cleaning behaviors. It can spiral to clean concentrated areas, follow walls to cover room perimeters and navigate around obstacles, and criss-cross rooms to ensure full cleaning coverage. It is not recommended for shag or high-pile carpets. The robot is designed for indoor use only and should not be used for continuous operation or commercial purposes. It is capable of automatically transitioning between different hard floor types.

Important Technical Specifications:

• Battery: Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable battery.
• Charging: Charges using a standard U.S. (120V AC) outlet only. Product may not be used with any type of power converter.
• Charging Time: A full charge allows for a maximum of 90 minutes of cleaning on hard floors. Initial charging or charging after long periods of inactivity may trigger a special 16-hour refresh charge cycle to extend battery life.
• Charging Indicator Light:
  • Red: Battery empty
  • Amber pulse: Charging
  • Solid green: Fully charged
• Virtual Wall (Optional Accessory): Creates an invisible barrier 3 to 8 feet long. Requires 2 "D" batteries and automatically shuts off after 135 minutes.
• Home Base™ (Optional Accessory): Allows the Dirt Dog to automatically return for recharging at the end of a cleaning cycle or when the battery is low. Requires a clear path for docking.
• Remote Control (Optional Accessory): Requires 2 AA batteries (sold separately).
• Scheduler Remote Control (Optional Accessory): Used to program cleaning times and send schedules to the Dirt Dog and scheduling Virtual Walls.

Usage Features:

• Cleaning Button: Initiates cleaning cycles.
• Bin Release: Allows for easy removal and emptying of the oversized dirt bin.
• Cleaning Modes (with Remote Control):
  • Clean: Dirt Dog calculates room size and adjusts cleaning time.
  • Spot: Starts Dirt Dog in spot cleaning mode for concentrated areas.
  • Max: Dirt Dog runs until the battery is depleted.
  • Pause: Pauses the cleaning cycle; pressing again resumes cleaning.
• Navigation: Uses cliff sensors to detect drops and avoid stairs.
• Obstacle Avoidance: Designed to navigate around furniture and obstacles. Users are advised to pick up loose objects, pull cords, and fragile items before cleaning.
• Virtual Wall Placement: Place Virtual Walls on the outside of doorways to block access or confine Dirt Dog to a single room for faster cleaning.
• Home Base Docking: Dirt Dog automatically docks with the Home Base. Manual docking is possible by placing the robot within five feet of the Home Base and pressing Spot and Clean simultaneously, or by driving it with the remote control.
• Scheduling: The Scheduler Remote Control allows users to program specific cleaning times and days for the Dirt Dog and scheduling Virtual Walls.

Maintenance Features:

• Brush Cleaning: Remove and clean Dirt Dog's brushes after every 3 uses. This involves removing the brush guard by pulling yellow tabs, then removing brush caps and using scissors or the supplied cleaning tool to remove hair and debris. Regularly inspect brush bearings for hair and dirt.
• Bin Emptying: Empty Dirt Dog's bin after every 3 uses, or more frequently depending on the environment.
• Cliff Sensor Cleaning: Clean Dirt Dog's cliff detect sensors using compressed air.
• General Cleaning: Clean the Dirt Dog with a dry cloth only. Do not submerge the robot or spray it with water, except for the bin.
• Battery Storage: Always store Dirt Dog connected to its charger or Home Base to extend battery life. Remove the battery before long-term storage or transportation.
• Troubleshooting: The robot communicates problems with a two-tone "uh-oh" sound followed by beeping, with specific beep codes indicating different issues (e.g., stuck wheel, brush obstruction, cliff sensor blockage). A detailed troubleshooting guide is provided in the manual.
• Replacement Parts: iRobot Customer Care can be contacted for replacement brush bearings if they are misplaced.
