Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the ITC T-60B and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The ITC series of public address mixer amplifiers are designed to provide robust and versatile audio solutions for various public address applications. These units offer a range of power ratings, from 60 to 650 watts, catering to different scale requirements, from small venues to larger installations. The amplifiers are engineered with a focus on both functionality and user safety, incorporating several features to ensure reliable operation and ease of use.

Function Description

At its core, the device functions as a mixer amplifier, integrating both mixing and amplification capabilities into a single unit. This allows for the combination of multiple audio sources and their subsequent amplification for output through speakers. The amplifiers feature a variety of input options to accommodate different audio sources. These include two balanced MIC inputs (MIC 2 and MIC 3) with XLR terminals, offering professional-grade connectivity for microphones. Additionally, there are three unbalanced microphone inputs (MIC 1, MIC 2, and MIC 3) using 6.3mm jack inputs, providing flexibility for various microphone types. For line-level audio sources, the units offer two line inputs (MIC 2 LINE and MIC 3 LINE) and two AUX inputs (AUX 1 and AUX 2), all utilizing unbalanced RCA connections. These diverse input options allow for the connection of CD players, media players, and other audio devices.

A key feature of these amplifiers is the inclusion of an EMC (Emergency) input. This input is designed for emergency alarm signals and has a priority function, meaning that when an emergency signal is detected, it will override all other audio inputs except MIC 1. This ensures that critical announcements are always heard, making the device suitable for safety-critical environments.

The output section of the amplifier is equally versatile, offering both 100V/70V line transformer-isolated speaker outputs and low impedance 4-16 ohms speaker outputs. This dual output capability allows the amplifier to be integrated into both constant voltage (70V/100V) and low impedance speaker systems, providing flexibility for different installation types. A "MIX OUT" terminal is also provided, enabling the mixed audio signal to be sent to another amplifier or audio equipment, facilitating system expansion.

Control over the audio output is comprehensive. Each microphone input (MIC 1, MIC 2, MIC 3) has its own volume control, allowing for individual adjustment of microphone levels. Similarly, the AUX inputs (AUX 1, AUX 2) also have dedicated volume controls. A master volume control governs the overall output level of all input signals. Tone control is provided through separate Bass and Treble controls, allowing users to adjust the frequency response of the audio output to suit their preferences or the acoustic characteristics of the environment. Rotating these controls clockwise increases the respective frequency output, while counter-clockwise rotation reduces it.

The amplifier also incorporates a mute function, primarily associated with MIC 1. MIC 1 has the highest priority over all other inputs, and its mute level can be adjusted. This feature is useful for situations where a primary microphone needs to take precedence over background music or other announcements.

Usage Features

The front panel of the amplifier is designed for intuitive operation. It includes a power switch for turning the unit on and off. Power and protection indicators provide visual feedback on the amplifier's status. The power LED illuminates when the unit is on and turns off when it's off. A "PROT" (Protection) indicator lights up when the machine enters a protection status due to overheating, overload, or direct current issues, and the output relay is disconnected to prevent damage. In normal operation, this LED is off. A "TEMP" (Temperature) indicator also lights up when the machine is overloaded and overheated, serving as a warning.

Level indicators, typically a series of LEDs, display the output level of the amplifier, allowing users to monitor the audio signal strength and prevent clipping or distortion.

The rear panel houses the various input and output terminals, along with additional controls. For the balanced MIC inputs (MIC 2, MIC 3), a phantom power switch is available, providing 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. Gain controls are also present for adjusting the input sensitivity of the microphones. A "MUTE" potentiometer on the rear panel allows for fine-tuning of the mute function, with maximum mute achieved by turning it to the right and minimum mute by turning it to the left.

For models with 24V DC power input, a "SPARED (BATTERY) POWER INTERFACE" is available, allowing the amplifier to be powered by a 24V DC source, which can be crucial for backup power in emergency situations or for mobile applications.

When connecting speakers, it is important to note that the 4-16 ohm terminals and the 70V/100V terminals cannot be used simultaneously. Users must choose one type of connection based on their speaker system. The manual provides guidance on total speaker system impedances for different amplifier models when using 70V or 100V lines.

Maintenance Features

Safety is a paramount concern in the design and operation of these amplifiers. The manual emphasizes several safety precautions to prevent bodily injury and property damage. Users are advised to read the instructions carefully and adhere to safety symbols and messages.

To ensure proper functioning and longevity, the units are equipped with a built-in cooling fan. This fan automatically activates when the internal temperature of the power module reaches 55 degrees Celsius, preventing overheating. The ventilation slots on the unit's cover should never be blocked, as this can lead to heat buildup and potential fire hazards.

The amplifiers incorporate multiple protection mechanisms, including overheating protection, short circuit protection, and overcurrent protection. These features automatically safeguard the unit from damage in the event of abnormal operating conditions.

Regular cleaning is recommended to prevent dust accumulation, which can lead to fire or damage. Users are advised to contact an ITC dealer for cleaning services. If the power supply plug or wall AC outlet accumulates dust, it should be cleaned periodically, and the plug should be inserted securely.

In case of any irregularities during use, such as smoke, strange smells, water or metallic objects entering the unit, physical damage, or malfunction, users are instructed to immediately switch off the power, disconnect the power supply plug, and contact their nearest ITC dealer for servicing. Users should never attempt to open or remove the unit case due to the presence of high voltage components inside.

The manual also provides a "GUIDANCE OF EXCLUDING ERRORS" section, which helps users troubleshoot common issues such as no voice output or alarming signals. This section outlines potential causes like incorrect power connections, blown fuses, low volume settings, input signal absence, overloading, short circuits, unstable voltage, or high operating temperatures.

For installation, it is crucial to avoid unstable locations, humid or dusty environments, direct sunlight, or areas with sooty smoke or steam, as these conditions can lead to fire or electric shock. An all-pole mains switch with a contact separation of at least 3mm in each pole should be incorporated into the electrical installation of the building for safety.

Finally, the manual stresses the importance of keeping the unit's sides at least 10 cm away from any objects that might obstruct airflow, ensuring proper ventilation and preventing internal temperature rise.
