Overview

This document outlines the connection and setup procedure for a Jabra Pro 9470 Mono headset with Alcatel IP Touch 4028EE, 4038EE, or 4068EE phones, utilizing a Jabra Link 14201-20 EHS adapter. The instructions are designed to guide users through the physical cabling, touchscreen configuration, and base unit settings to ensure proper functionality, including remote call control and ringtone transfer.

Function Description

The Jabra Pro 9470 Mono headset, when connected via the Jabra Link 14201-20 EHS adapter, provides seamless integration with compatible Alcatel IP Touch phones. This setup enables users to manage calls wirelessly, offering freedom of movement while maintaining communication. The core function is to facilitate remote call control, allowing users to answer, end, and reject calls directly from the headset, eliminating the need to interact with the desk phone for basic call management. The EHS adapter acts as a bridge, translating signals between the headset base and the phone, ensuring that features like ringtone detection and remote hookswitch functionality operate correctly. The system is designed to provide clear audio for both the user and the caller, enhancing communication efficiency in a professional environment. The mono design allows users to remain aware of their surroundings while on a call.

Usage Features

The usage of this headset system involves several key features that enhance the user experience:

  • Remote Call Control: The primary usage feature is the ability to answer and end calls remotely from the headset. This is achieved through the EHS adapter, which electronically controls the phone's hookswitch. When a call comes in, the headset will ring, and the user can press a button on the headset to answer, eliminating the need to return to the desk. This significantly improves mobility and productivity.
  • Ringtone Transfer: The system is configured to transfer the phone's ringtone directly to the headset, alerting the user to incoming calls even when away from their desk. This feature is dependent on specific ringtone settings on the Alcatel phone, with "Standard," "Classic," "Cold River," or "Dooing-Dooing" being recommended for proper functionality. Other ringtone options like "No tone," "Progressive," or "Beeps" should be set to OFF to ensure the ringtone is heard in the headset.
  • Audio Path Configuration: The setup includes a "Guided setup" option on the Jabra device touchscreen, which can automatically configure the audio path by connecting to a local Jabra Setup server. This simplifies the initial configuration process, ensuring optimal sound quality and compatibility. If the server is unavailable, manual configuration options are provided.
  • Microphone Level Adjustment: Users can fine-tune the microphone level on the Jabra device base to ensure their voice is transmitted clearly and at an appropriate volume to the caller. The recommended setting is 7 out of 13, but this can be adjusted based on individual preference and environmental factors.
  • Adapter Type Selection: The Jabra device touchscreen allows users to select the correct EHS adapter type, specifically "DHSG" for this setup. This ensures proper communication protocols are established between the headset base and the EHS adapter.
  • Phone Setup Switch: A physical switch on the Jabra device base, labeled "Set clear dial-tone switch," needs to be set to position "A." This switch optimizes the audio signal for the specific phone system, ensuring a clear dial tone and optimal call quality.
  • Visual Confirmation: A headset symbol appearing on the phone display serves as a visual confirmation that the headset connector has been correctly adapted and is recognized by the phone. This helps users quickly verify the setup's success.
  • Compatibility with Phone Software Versions: The instructions differentiate between phone settings for device software versions 9.xx and higher, and those lower than 9.xx. This ensures that users can correctly configure their phone regardless of its software version, addressing potential variations in menu options and functionalities. For newer software, phone settings are largely automatic once the connector is adapted. For older versions, specific menu navigation is provided to activate the headset and ensure "Force Headset" is OFF to allow external calls.
  • Multi-Cable Connection: The setup involves connecting multiple cables with distinct markings (phone cable, EHS adapter cable, white/D cable, orange/A cable) to specific ports on the Jabra base, EHS adapter, and the phone. The colored markings on the cables are crucial for correct installation, ensuring each component communicates effectively. The device will not be fully functional until all colored markings for the cables have been correctly connected to the EHS adapter.

Maintenance Features

While the document primarily focuses on setup and usage, some aspects touch upon maintenance implicitly:

  • Troubleshooting Guidance: The instructions provide troubleshooting steps for common issues, such as the absence of a headset symbol on the phone display. This guides users to check specific phone settings (e.g., "Activate/select handset" or "Activate headset") to resolve connectivity problems.
  • Software Version Awareness: The distinction between phone settings for different software versions (9.xx and higher vs. lower than 9.xx) implies a need for users to be aware of their phone's software. This knowledge helps in correctly navigating menus and applying appropriate settings, which can be seen as a form of preventative maintenance against configuration errors.
  • Contacting Support: The document explicitly advises contacting the local Jabra Support team if the Jabra Setup server is unavailable during the guided setup. This highlights the availability of expert assistance for more complex issues, ensuring that users can maintain optimal functionality even when automated tools are not accessible.
  • Correct Cabling for Longevity: Emphasizing the correct connection of all cables with their respective colored markings is crucial for the long-term reliability of the system. Incorrect connections could potentially damage ports or cables, leading to system malfunctions. Following the detailed cabling instructions helps prevent such issues, contributing to the overall maintenance and longevity of the equipment.
  • Optimal Settings for Performance: Recommendations for microphone level (7 out of 13) and specific ringtone settings are not just for initial setup but also for maintaining optimal performance. Regularly checking these settings, especially after any system updates or changes, ensures consistent audio quality and reliable call alerts.
