ake
sure
that
the
brake
han
dle
on
the
instrument
pane
l
is
fully released.
Give
due
attent
ion
to
the
cab
le
and
operating
linkage
to
see
that
th
ey
do
not
bind.
If
necessary
free
up
the
cable
and
lubri-
cate
it.
Rotate
the
brake
drum
until
one
pair
of
the
th
ree
sets
of
holes
are
over
the
shoe
adjusting
screw
wheels
in
the
brake.
Use
the
edge
of
the
hol
es
in
the
brake
drum
as
a
fulcrum
for
suitable
adjusting
tool
or
a
screwdriver,
rotate
each
notc
h
ed
ad
jus
ting
screw
by
movin
g
the
h
and
le
of
the
tool
away
from
the
center
of
the
drive
shaft
until
the
shoes
are
snug
in
the
drum.
Ba
ck
off
seven
notches
on
the
adjusting
screw wheels
to
secur
e
proper
runnin
g
clearance
betwe
en the
shoes
and
the
drum.

hand
brake
raise

wheels

floor.
Pull
up
three
notches
on
the
hand
brake
lever
and
tighte
n
the
adjustment
until
the
rear
brakes

ag
slightly
. R elease

hand
brake
lever
and
check
the
rear
wheels
for
drag.
The
wheels
must
turn
freely
with
t he
lever
released.

To
reline the
brake
shoes
and
make
a
major
ad-
justment,
first
remove
the
four
universal
joint
at-
taching
nuts
and
lower
the
propeller
shaft.
R
emove
the
retractin
g
spring
clevis
pin
and
the
spring
clip.
Remove
the
hug
lock
nut,
the
nut
and
washer
from
the
transfer
case
output
shaft.
Both
the
universal
joint
comp
anion
flange
and
the
br
ake
drum
may
be
r
ead
i
ly
r
emoved
by
using
puller

two
brake
shoe
retracting
springs
and
the
shoes
.
Clean
all
parts
with
a
suitable
cleaning
solution
and
examine
them
for
damage
or
wear.
Brake
shoes
may
be
disto
r
ted
by
improper
lining
i
nstallation
and
the
lining
shou
ld
be
gro
und
true
after
ins
tallation
on
the
shoes.
For
this
reason
it
is
recommended
that
new
or
repl
acemen
t
shoe
and
lining assemblies
be
installed.
To
reassembl
e,
first
tum
both
adjusting
screw
wheels
away
from
the
center
to
"all
off"
position.
Place
a
light
film
of
grease
on
the
brake
actuating
cam
and
install
the
shoes.
Inst
all
the
black
shoe
re-
turn
sp
ring n
ext
to
the
cam
and
the
ye
llow
spring
next
to
the
notch
adj
us
ting
wheel
screw.
Pla
ce
the
brake
drum
and
universal
joint
flange
in
position
and
install
the
transfer
case
output
shaft
washer,
nut
and
hu
g lock
nut.
Rotate
the
drum
until
one
pair
of
holes
in
the
drum
are
oppos
i
te
the
two
adjusting
screw
wheels
in
the
brakes.
Us
e
the
edge
of
the
hol
es
as
a
fulcrum
and
with
a sui
table
too
l
or
screwd
river
for
adjusting,
rotate
the
adjusting
sc
r
ew
whe
els,
mov
ing
the
han
-
dle
of
the
tool
away
from
the
drum
until
the
shoes
a
re
snug
in
the
drum.
Ex
amine
the
brake
operating
cable
to
be
sure
that
it
is
not
worn
or
damaged.
Fr
ee
it
up
thoroughly
and
lubricate
it.
Make
sur
e
the
operat
ing
handle
on
the
instrum
ent
panel
is
fully
released.
Adjus
t
the
clev
is
on
the
br
ake
end
of
the
ope
rating
cable
until
the
clevis
pin
will
just
go
thro
u
gh the
hole
in
the
clevis
and
brake
ope
r
ating
leve
r
witho
ut
slack
in
the
cab
l
e.
Tighten
the clevis
lock
nut.
After
the
cab
le
is
conne
cted
back
off
seven
n
otches
on
each
adjusting
screw
wheel
which
will give
the
proper
runn
ing
cl
earance
bet
w
een
the
lining
and
the
drum.
R
econnect
the
propeller
shaft.
In
sta
ll
re
tracting
sp
ring
clip, clevis
pin
and
th
e
cotter
pin,
also, in-
stall
the
retracting
spring
link
and
spri
ng.
The
position
of
the
brake
operating
lever,
Fig.
289,
must
be
correct
ly
set.
Th
e
position
of

ev
er
(see
arrow
in
Fig.
289),
is
determined
by
the
a
djustment
of
t
he
cam
or
br
ake
ope
r
ating
l
ink,
which
spreads
the
two
shoes.
Th
e
opera
ting
link
is
a
djus
te
d
by
means
of
the
special
ball
nut
to
set
the
operating
l
ever
with
~" [2.38
mm.]
clearance
between
the
closest
point
of
the
lever
and
the
brake
bac
king
plate.
The
pos
ition
of
this
lever
should
be
checked
when
making
a major
adjustment
or
when
relining the
