c. The rocker arms are paired; that is, two. of. the
arms are ari:gled ,to the right and two are angled to
the left. One of' e_ach_ type is used on each end of
th~, rocker arm shaft .. Slide a rocker arm with 'the
ac;Ijusting screw end of the rocker arm angling
away from the bracket onto the shaft so that' the
adjusting screw is on the same -side· of .the ·shaft
as the mounting hole in the bracket.
d. Temporarily secure-the end bracket in place by
installing a rocker arm cover- stud in the tapped
opening in the top of the,support. "
e. Assemble the par\:s on 'the opposite ¢nd of the
rocker arm shaft repeating steps c and d above. ·

The engine assembly procedure in the following
paragraphs is given in the 'sequence to be followed
when the engine is. being completely overhauled.
Individual inspection; repair, and fitting ope~ations
previously covered in detail are made throughout ·
the assembly procedure. The assembly procedure
does not cover accessories. If a new cylinder block

Mount the cylinder block in an engine repa:ir stand.
'If an engine' stand is not available, perform the
following assembly operation in a manner designed
to protect personnel against .an accident·. and .the
en,~ine and its parts against d'i\ma~e.
~ote: With the adoption of· the 4~" 'starting
'D:lotor; a new flyWheel housing, rear engine plate,
and fly\Vheel ring gear were required: ··

Coat plug thFeads with a suitable sealing .compound
and install. the plugs. in ~he front .and rear ends of
the oil gallery in the cylinder block anc;I t;he rear
end of the cyllnder head .. Torque the plugs 20 to
25 Jb-ft. [2,8 a, 3,4 kg,ll)..].. " .. _ . . _ .
There-is also a pipe plug (.Ys" [3,2 mm.] slotted,
headless) in the openi11g · in, the. main oil gallery
inside the cylinder block at N'o .. •2 cylinder -and
another pipe plug (_Ys" square-head) in the opening
