Why is there no transmission or low transmit power level on my Kenwood Transceiver?

  Several factors can cause low transmit power. Check the microphone and antenna connections to ensure they are secure. Adjust the microphone gain using the MIC control and the transmit power using the PWR control. If the temperature protection activates, stop transmitting to cool down the transceiver. Also, adjust the CAR control until the ALC meter readout indicates the appropriate range, and check that the Drive Output (DRV) is disabled. Ensure the selected audio source for transmission matches the audio source entered to the transceiver. Review all connections including the microphone, keyer/paddle, and any peripheral devices.

  If there's no audio from the speaker, first, rotate the AF control clockwise and the SQL control counterclockwise. Ensure headphones are disconnected. If in FM mode, deactivate CTCSS.   If you cannot receive and the RX sensitivity is low, start by adjusting the SQL control and ensuring the DCD LED on the TNC is not lit. Disable the attenuator and preamplifier. Make sure the RX ANT is inactive and reselect the antenna. If antenna tuning is the issue, press and hold [AT/TUNE] to tune or stop the antenna tuning. Rotate the RF control fully clockwise, reset the center frequency of the preselector to default, and ensure the transverter is correctly configured and working properly. Review the configuration for the additional filter and readjust the preselector (main band only).

  If the transceiver doesn't transmit and the PWR meter is inactive, unlock the PTT switch if it's locked on while using a stand microphone. Ensure the selected frequency is within the amateur band. Disable TX Inhibit in Menu 6-03.

  If background noise is high during SSB or AM transmission, transmit your voice while observing the ALC meter and adjust the microphone gain to slightly activate the Automatic Level Control. Also, rotate the PROC IN control until the COMP meter readout indicates the appropriate range.

  If transmission starts unexpectedly, disable the VOX function or adjust the VOX Gain level. Decrease the entered signal level if the audio source from the rear panel terminals is too high. If the audio signal is entered from a connector enabled as the audio source for transmission and the same audio source is specified for Data VOX, disable Data VOX or review the configurations for the audio source and adjust the VOX Gain level.
