46 Keysight N778xC Series Polarization Instruments User’s Guide
3 Definition of Terms

Relative Power Uncertainty due to PDL
Two times the standard deviation of the power measured at the
polarimeter input when varying the polarization state (SOP).
Relative Power Measurement Error due to Other Factors
Specifies the relative power measurement error when averaging out
the polarization dependent loss.
For each wavelength, the deviation of the measured power and the
input power is measured and the maximum relative deviation over all
wavelengths of the defined wavelength range is determined.
Relative Output Power Uncertainty due to PDL
Two times the standard deviation of the measured output power error
when varying the polarization state (SOP).
The output power is measured at the (scrambler) output port (N7786C).
Relative Output Power Measurement Error due to Other Factors
Specifies the relative power measurement error when averaging out the
polarization dependent loss.
For each wavelength, the deviation of the measured power and the output
power is measured and the maximum relative deviation over all
wavelengths of the defined wavelength range is determined.
Input Power Range
The range of power levels for which the instrument displays a
measurement readout.
Maximum Safe Optical Input Power
Higher power levels than defined by the maximum safe optical input power
may damage the instrument irreversibly. Note that proper operation is only
provided within the Input Power Range.
Higher power levels than defined by the maximum safe optical input
power may damage the instrument irreversibly.
