This document provides a quick user guide for the Kia Multimedia system, focusing on its radio, media, phone, and navigation functionalities.
General Overview
The Kia Multimedia system offers a range of features accessible through its touchscreen display and physical buttons. The main screen typically displays the current function (e.g., radio, map) and includes a status bar with time and other indicators.
Physical Controls
The device features several physical buttons and rotary knobs for intuitive control:
- Disc Insert Indicator LED: Illuminates when a disc (CD, MP3) is inserted into the system.
- RADIO Button: Cycles through available radio bands (FM, AM).
- MEDIA Button: Cycles through various media inputs, including DISC (CD, MP3), USB, iPod®, Aux, and Bluetooth Media.
- ^v (Seek Buttons):
- Short Key Press: In FM/AM mode, automatically searches for the previous or next broadcast frequency and begins playback. In CD, MP3, USB, or iPod® mode, plays the previous or next track, file, or song.
- Long Key Press: In FM/AM mode, quickly scans through frequencies while pressed; upon release, it automatically searches for receivable broadcasts. In CD, MP3, USB, or iPod® mode, performs a rewind (REW) or fast forward (FF) of the current playing track, file, or song.
- Display On/Off Button: Toggles the display screen on and off.
- Left Rotary Knob:
- Push: Turns the power of the unit on or off.
- Turn: Adjusts the system volume.
- MAP Button: Displays the map screen, showing the current vehicle position.
- NAV Button: Accesses the Destination menu screen for navigation functions.
- SETUP Button:
- Short Key Press: Displays the Setup menu screen.
- Long Key Press: Displays device information such as device ID, software version, navigation version, and map version.
- INFO Button: When route guidance is active, pressing this button displays destination, route, and traffic information.
- PHONE Button: Displays the Bluetooth® handsfree screen, allowing access to phone functions.
- Right Rotary Knob:
- Turn: In FM/AM mode, searches for the previous or next radio frequency (manual tuning). In CD, MP3, USB, or iPod® mode, plays the previous or next track, file, or song. In Navigation mode, changes the map scale (zoom in/out) on the map screen.
- Push: Repeats the current voice guidance instruction.
Phone Functionality
The multimedia system supports Bluetooth connectivity for phone pairing, handsfree calls, and media streaming.
Phone Pairing
To pair a mobile phone with the system:
- Ensure Bluetooth is active on your phone.
- Press the Setup button on the Kia multimedia unit.
- Touch the Bluetooth tab within the Settings menu.
- Touch Search for Bluetooth devices on the Bluetooth menu.
- Once your device is identified, select (touch) your device name on the screen.
- The screen will display a 4-digit code. Enter this code into your mobile phone.
- Pairing is complete when the Bluetooth symbol appears in the top right corner of the screen. Ensure your phone settings allow for automatic pairing.
Alternatively, you can initiate the search from your mobile phone:
- Use External Device Authorisation in the Bluetooth menu of the multimedia system.
- Refer to your mobile device's owner's manual for specific instructions on device searching.
Phone Connection (Selection)
The system can store up to 10 paired phones or Bluetooth devices. To connect a previously paired device:
- Ensure Bluetooth is active on your phone.
- Press the Setup button on the multimedia unit.
- Touch the Bluetooth tab in the Settings menu.
- Touch View Bluetooth device list on the Bluetooth menu.
- Select the desired phone to activate the pairing.
Streaming from Bluetooth Devices
To stream media from a Bluetooth device:
- Ensure the device is paired with the multimedia unit (follow the pairing instructions above).
- Press the Media button.
- With most devices, the media or audio player on the phone will need to be active for streaming to commence.
Navigation Guide
The navigation system provides tools for setting destinations, managing routes, and handling live traffic information.
Selecting a Destination
- Press the Nav button to access the Navigation Menu screen.
- Press the Find tab.
- Press the Find Address tab to enter the address.
- Complete each address field (Town, Street, Number, or Intersection).
- Review and confirm the destination by touching Next.
- Review and confirm the route by selecting GO or waiting 10 seconds.
- The system will commence travel to your destination.
Setting Favourites
- Press the Nav button to access the Navigation Menu screen.
- Press the Find tab.
- Press the History tab on the Navigation Menu to access past destinations.
- Select the past destination you wish to add to your favourites.
- On the overview screen, select the More tab.
- Select the Add to favourites tab.
- You may save the favourite with a different name by typing a desired name, then select Done to save.
Selecting POI (Points of Interest)
- Press the Nav button to access the Navigation Menu screen.
- Press the Find tab.
- Press Find Places.
- Select from the quick search menu (Petrol Stations, Parking, Restaurant, Accommodation).
- For a wider selection of POIs, select the Custom Search tab.
Cancelling a Route
- Select the Nav button.
- Select the My Route tab.
- Confirm by selecting the Cancel route tab.
Map Screen (No Destination Set)
When no destination is set, the map screen displays:
- Direction: Heading in degrees.
- Quick Customised Menu: Provides quick access to common map settings.
- Live Traffic Menu: Displays current traffic conditions.
- Position Information: Expandable section showing details like altitude.
- Current Street: Name of the road the vehicle is currently on.
- Navigation Menu: Access to main navigation functions.
Map Screen (Destination Selected)
When a destination is set, the map screen displays:
- Next Turn Street Name: The name of the street for the upcoming turn.
- Quick Customised Menu: Quick access to map settings.
- Live Traffic Menu: Displays current traffic conditions.
- Journey Info: Expandable section showing distance and time to destination.
- Current Street: Name of the road the vehicle is currently on.
- Navigation Menu: Access to main navigation functions.
Traffic Management (Live Traffic) Guide
The system can provide live traffic information and suggest detours.
Initial Setup
- Press the Nav button to access the Navigation Menu screen.
- Press More... to enter the navigation setup menu.
- Press the Traffic tab.
- Ensure the Traffic Receiver item is enabled (default is on).
- Press Detour to open the detour menu.
- To receive confirmation of a detour route (if there is a significant traffic delay), enable the Do you want to confirm the offered route? item.
- If Do you want to confirm the offered route? is not enabled, the system will automatically select the best route to avoid traffic events without notification.
On Map Screen (No Destination Set)
- Press the traffic incident icon (a red triangle with an exclamation mark) to open the traffic information screen.
- Select Event List to view all traffic incidents in the area.
On Map Screen (Destination Set)
- If there are no traffic incidents along the route, the traffic incident icon will appear, and pressing it will open the traffic information screen.
- If there are traffic incidents along the route, the icon of the most immediate event will be displayed (with an approximate time delay). Traffic event icons include:
- Red triangle with exclamation mark: Traffic congestion.
- Orange triangle with a shovel: Road works/blocks.
- Orange triangle with two cars colliding: Accident.
- After setting up the destination, if there is a traffic incident (and detour confirmation is on), a window confirming an alternative route will pop up.
- Press either Yes on the pop-up or the event icon to bring up the detour screen.
- Press Accept to confirm the detour change or Back to keep the original route.
