Overview

This document is the owner's manual for a freestanding electric range, providing comprehensive information on its safety, installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The freestanding electric range is a kitchen appliance designed for cooking, featuring a cooktop with surface units and an oven. It is intended for residential use and offers various cooking modes and cleaning options. The range is designed to be installed in a kitchen, either as a freestanding unit or recessed into cabinetry, and requires a dedicated electrical supply.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Requirements (U.S.A. Only):
    • Voltage: 250 V minimum.
    • Amperage: 40 A or 50 A, depending on the range's power rating.
    • Power Supply Cord: UL listed, 3-wire or 4-wire, rated at 250 V, 40 A or 50 A, with nominal 1 3/8" (3.5 cm) diameter connection opening, ending in ring or open-end spade terminals.
    • Direct Wire: 8 gauge copper or 6 gauge aluminum wire.
    • Circuit Protection: A circuit breaker is recommended.
    • Grounding: The range is manufactured with the neutral terminal connected to the cabinet. For 4-wire systems, the green ground wire of the power supply cord must be connected to the cabinet. Grounding through the neutral conductor is prohibited for new branch-circuit installations (1996 NEC), mobile homes, recreational vehicles, or where local codes prohibit it.
    • Cord Length: At least 4 ft (1.22 m) long for 4-wire power supply cords.
  • Cabinet Dimensions:
    • Countertop Depth: 25" (64.0 cm).
    • Base Cabinet Depth: 24" (61.0 cm).
    • Countertop Height: 36" (91.4 cm).
    • Minimum Opening Width: 30" (76.2 cm).
    • Minimum Clearance to Top of Cooktop: 24" (61.0 cm) minimum when bottom of wood or metal cabinet is covered by flame retardant millboard and sheet steel/stainless steel/aluminum/copper.
    • Minimum Clearance between Cooking Platform and Uncovered Wood/Metal Cabinet Bottom: 30" (76.2 cm).
    • Outlet Location: 8" (20.3 cm) to 22" (55.9 cm) from either cabinet, 7" (17.8 cm) max. from floor.
  • Anti-Tip Bracket: Essential safety device, securely attached to the floor or wall, with a V-notch for the rear leveling leg. Mounting can be on the left or right side of the cutout, with the V-notch 12 9/16" (31.9 cm) from the centerline.
  • Leveling Legs: Adjustable, allowing for up to 1" (2.5 cm) height adjustment. A minimum of 3/16" (5 mm) is needed to engage the anti-tip bracket.
  • Maximum Allowable Wood Cabinet Temperatures: 194°F (90°C).

Usage Features:

  • Safety Alert System: Uses "DANGER" and "WARNING" to indicate potential hazards.
  • Anti-Tip Bracket: Crucial for preventing the range from tipping over, especially when applying force or weight to an open door. Installation and engagement verification are detailed.
  • Proper Installation: Emphasizes electrical grounding according to local codes (National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, or Canadian Electrical Code, CSA C22.1-02).
  • Leveling: Instructions for leveling the range using a standard flat rack in the oven, ensuring optimal baking performance and cleaning results.
  • Drawer Types: Some models include a storage drawer, warming drawer, or premium storage drawer, with specific instructions for removal and replacement.
  • Oven Door Removal: Instructions for removing the oven door for cleaning or maintenance, noting its heavy weight.
  • Remote Operation (Smart Enabled Ranges/Ovens): Configurable to allow remote operation, with a warning against storing flammable or temperature-sensitive items inside or near surface units.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning:
    • Exterior Porcelain Enamel Surfaces: Clean with glass cleaner, mild liquid cleaner, or nonabrasive scrubbing pad. Acidic spills should be cleaned immediately.
    • Stainless Steel Surfaces: Use Affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaner; avoid soap-filled scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, or steel-wool pads.
    • Metallic Paint Surfaces: Avoid abrasive cleaners, bleach, rust removers, ammonia, or sodium hydroxide.
    • Ceramic Glass Cooktop: Use a Cooktop Scraper for food/residue, followed by Cooktop Cleaner and a blue Cooktop Cleaning Pad. Polish with a dry cloth.
    • Cooktop Controls: Clean with soap and water; remove knobs by pulling them straight off. Do not soak knobs.
    • Control Panel and Oven Door Exterior: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth/sponge, or Affresh® Kitchen and Appliance Cleaner.
    • Oven Racks: Clean with a steel-wool pad. Vegetable oil can be applied to rack guides for easier sliding.
    • Storage/Warming Drawer: Clean with mild detergent.
  • Oven Cavity Cleaning:
    • AquaLift® Self-Cleaning Technology: An innovative low-heat, odor-free cleaning solution that uses heat and 2 cups (500 mL) of distilled or filtered water to release baked-on spills in less than an hour.
      • Process: Remove racks and accessories, wipe excess soil, pour water onto the oven bottom, close the door, select "Clean" or "AquaLift Self Clean," and start. After 40 minutes, remove residual water and loosened soils with a sponge or non-scratch scrubbing pad.
      • Important Notes: Do not use chemicals or other additives with water. Do not open the oven door during the cycle. The oven must be cool before starting. The range should be level. Multiple cycles may be needed for stubborn soils.
    • Self-Cleaning Ranges (traditional): Instructions for self-cleaning, including warnings not to clean the door gasket or use commercial oven cleaners. Remove broiler pan and other utensils before self-cleaning.
  • Moving the Range: Instructions for safely moving the range for cleaning or maintenance, emphasizing the need to disengage and re-engage the anti-tip bracket and disconnect power.
