OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
3. Saw Blades
The best saw blades will not cut efciently if they
are not kept clean, sharp, and properly set. Using
a dull blade will place a heavy load on the saw and
increase the danger of kickback. Keep extra blades
on hand so sharp blades are always available.
Gum and resin on blades will slow the saw down.
Follow the instructions for removing a saw blade,
and use gum and resin remover, hot water, or
kerosene to remove these accumulations.
WARNING
Do not use gasoline to clean the blade.
Installing a Saw Blade
WARNING
This tool is intended for cutting wood only. Use only the correct saw blades for wood-cutting
operations. Do not use any abrasive wheels.
Use only 6-1/2” saw blades rated 5500/min (RPM) or greater. NEVER use a blade that is so
thick that it prevents the outer blade washer from engaging with the at side of the spindle. Using
a blade not designed for the saw may result in serious personal injury and property damage.
It is recommended that you use a KOBALT KCSB 16-03 6-1/2” blade sold on www.lowes.com.
Be sure to wear protective work gloves while handling a saw blade. The blade can injure
unprotected hands.
To prevent personal injury, always remove the battery pack before installing or removing the
saw blade.
a. Remove the battery pack from the saw.
b. Depress and hold the spindle-lock button (P).
c. Loosen the blade bolt (J) by turning it clockwise with the included blade wrench (Y).
NOTE: The blade bolt has left-hand thread and should be turned clockwise to loosen and
counterclockwise to tighten.
d. Remove the blade bolt (J) and the outer ange (K).
e. The inner ange does not need to be removed, unless it requires cleaning.
WARNING
If the inner ange has been removed, replace it before placing the blade on the spindle.
Failure to do so will prevent the blade from tightening properly and could result in serious
personal injury.
f. Use the blade-guard lever (G) to retract the lower blade guard (I) into the upper blade
guard (M). While retracting the lower guard, check the operation and condition of the lower
guard system.
g. Fit the saw blade (L) inside the lower blade guard and onto the spindle. Verify that the
saw teeth, the arrow on the saw blade, and the blade-rotation indicator arrow on the lower
blade guard are all pointing in the same direction.
