Timing cover assembly
Before mounting the timing cover check that between the gear shims
and the crankcase surface (g. 59) there is a maxi clearance of:
The axial clearance is measured at the timing cover gaskets and
must be between:
If the axial clearance of the crankshaft becomes excessive after a
long working period, add adjustment shims to the engine shaft and
camshaft gear until the clearance returns to normal values (g. 60).
0.2 and 0.3 mm shims are available.

. Place crankshaft on previously housed shells making sure the ti-
ming references found on the gears coincide (g. 57).
8. Insert oil seal rings on the drive side of the crankshaft (g. 58).
9. Mount lower crankcase complete with studs, centering pins and
bearings.
10.Take care to insert the centering pins between crankcases into
their respective housings without using force.
11.Tighten crankcase screws, to starting from the centre and alter-
nating towards the outside at:
A warped oil retainer may allow the introduction of air into
the engine thus causing crankcase ventilation problems.
Use genuine oil retainers with the Kohler.
