The Krups Universal Compact is a highly compact, fold-up electric food slicer designed for domestic use, emphasizing space-saving storage and ease of operation. Its primary function is to slice various food items with precision, offering adjustable thickness from paper-thin to ¼ inch.

Function Description:

The Universal Compact is engineered to provide efficient and consistent slicing of food items. It features a full-size Solingen stainless steel serrated cutting blade, which is treated with Krups' unique impulse beam hardening process for enhanced durability, corrosion resistance, and sharpness due to special electrolytic treatment. The appliance operates by guiding food along a food slide towards the rotating blade. The slicing thickness is adjustable via a large adjustment wheel, allowing users to select their desired slice thickness. For safety, the slicer includes a push-button safety switch that must be depressed for operation, and a child safety lock to prevent accidental activation. A hinged food collection tray automatically catches sliced food, and can also be used for serving. The slicer is powered by a robust Krups motor, ensuring reliable performance.

• Compact Design: The most significant feature is its ability to fold up to a mere 3¾ inches wide, making it exceptionally easy to store in drawers or small kitchen spaces.
• Easy Assembly/Unfolding: The appliance is assembled by unfolding the table and fitting the food slide and end piece holder. The table unfolds by inserting a finger into a recess and folding it down. The food slide and end piece holder are designed to open out and press together for use.
• Adjustable Slicing: The large adjustment wheel allows for precise control over slice thickness. Users are advised to turn the wheel back to fully retract the blade after slicing.
• Food Guiding: Food should always be guided with one hand using the food slide, while the other hand operates the push-button switch. For small pieces and leftovers, the end piece holder should be placed on the food slide.
• Safety Mechanisms:
  • Push-button Safety Switch: The slicer operates only when this button on top of the machine is depressed.
  • Child Safety Lock: A small lever located below the push-button switch can be pushed towards the blade to inactivate the switch, preventing accidental operation. To reactivate, the lever is slightly raised and pushed away from the blade.
  • Food Slide and End Piece Holder: These must always be used to keep hands away from the blade, especially when slicing end pieces or small items.
  • No Frozen Food: The appliance is not designed for slicing frozen food.

  • Cutting Table Removal: The cutting table can be removed for cleaning the space between the table and the appliance. This is done by releasing a locking button on the side of the table (turning it 90 degrees to the right).
  • Face Plate Removal: After removing the food slide, the face plate can also be easily removed for comprehensive cleaning.
• Dishwasher Warning: It is strongly advised against washing detachable parts in a dishwasher due to the risk of distortion from high temperatures, especially if parts are clamped during washing.
• Regular Cleaning: Periodic thorough cleaning is recommended to prevent the buildup of perishable food residues.
