This document describes the KRUPS Espresseria Automatic espresso machine, a sophisticated appliance designed for household use to prepare espresso, coffee, and froth milk. It is not intended for commercial or professional purposes.
The KRUPS Espresseria Automatic is an advanced coffee machine that grinds whole coffee beans and brews various coffee beverages with a simple touch of a button. It offers four types of beverages: espresso (20-70 ml/0.7-2.4 oz), strong espresso (20-70 ml/0.7-2.4 oz), coffee (80-120 ml/2.7-4.0 oz), and long coffee (120-220 ml/4.0-7.4 oz). The machine features a grinding fineness selector knob, allowing users to adjust the grind for a finer (stronger flavor) or coarser (milder flavor) coffee. This adjustment should be made during the grinding process.
Beyond coffee, the machine also incorporates a steam function for frothing milk, ideal for preparing cappuccinos and caffe lattes. It can also be used to reheat other liquids. The steam nozzle is designed for efficient milk frothing, and for those seeking greater convenience, an optional Auto-Cappuccino accessory (XS6000, sold separately) simplifies the process of creating milk-based drinks.
The machine is equipped with a digital display for parameter settings and various operating lights that indicate its status and required actions. These lights guide the user through different stages, such as pre-heating, brewing, cleaning, descaling, and error conditions.
Before first use, the machine requires an initial set-up process, including measuring and setting water hardness, setting the desired coffee temperature, and programming the automatic shut-off feature. The water hardness can be determined using a provided test strip, and the machine can be programmed for levels from 0 (very soft) to 4 (extremely hard). The coffee temperature can be adjusted to personal preference, and the automatic shut-off can be set for durations of 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours of non-use. These settings are memorized even after a power failure.
The machine is designed to use only fresh, whole coffee or espresso beans. Oily or sugar-coated beans, as well as flavored beans, are not recommended as they can clog the grinder and damage the machine. If using oily beans, it is advised to stir them in the coffee hopper before use. Frozen beans should be thawed for at least 4 hours to prevent moisture from entering the grinder. Ground coffee should never be put into the coffee bean container.
To prepare a beverage, users simply place a cup under the coffee outlets, select the desired coffee type and volume using the adjustment knob, and press the corresponding key. The coffee outlets have height-adjusting handles to accommodate different cup sizes. For two cups, the machine can be cycled twice by pressing the desired coffee key rapidly in succession. The machine will automatically sequence through two complete cycles.
The steam function involves pressing the steam button, waiting for the pre-heating phase to complete, and then pressing the button again to start steam generation. The steam cycle automatically stops after a maximum of 2 minutes. For frothing milk, pasteurized 1% or 2% cold milk (ideally between 42.8° F/6° C and 46.4° F/10° C) is recommended.
The KRUPS Espresseria Automatic comes with a Claris - Aqua Filter System cartridge (F088) to optimize coffee taste and extend machine lifetime by reducing chlorine, impurities, lead, copper, and pesticides in the water. This filter should be replaced approximately every 50 liters of water or every two months.
Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal functioning and longevity of the machine. The appliance provides clear indications through its operating lights when maintenance is required.
Key maintenance tasks include:
In case of operating errors, the machine's lights will provide specific indications, and a troubleshooting guide is included in the manual to help resolve common issues. For persistent problems, users are advised to contact a KRUPS Service Center. The machine is covered by a limited warranty for 1 year or a maximum of 3,000 cycles, provided instructions for use and maintenance are followed.
