Overview

The Kubota BX80 Series Cab is a ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) cab designed and built by Tektite Manufacturing Inc. to fit Kubota BX1880, BX2380, and BX2680 tractors. It is intended to provide safe and dependable service during operation, offering both ROPS protection and reasonable winter weather protection.

Function Description

The primary function of the Kubota BX80 Series Cab is to provide a protective enclosure for the tractor operator. As a ROPS product, it is engineered to withstand a rollover event, significantly reducing the risk of serious injury or death to the operator. The cab also offers protection from environmental elements, particularly in winter, with its deluxe design featuring glass windows at all locations.

The cab integrates various electrical components to enhance operator convenience and safety. These include:

  • Front Wiper Rocker Switch (standard): Controls the front wiper, with an indicator light to show when it's active.
  • Rear Wiper Rocker Switch (optional): Controls the rear wiper, with an indicator light.
  • Front Work Light Rocker Switch (optional): Activates the front work lights, with an indicator light.
  • Rear Work Light Rocker Switch (optional): Activates the rear work lights, with an indicator light.
  • Front Wiper Washer Rocker Switch (optional): Controls the front wiper washer.
  • Beacon Rocker Switch (optional): Activates a beacon light, with an indicator light.
  • Water Heater Fan Rocker Switch (optional): Controls the water heater fan, with an indicator light.

All standard and optional features are individually fused, with fuses accessible behind a plug in the middle of the switch-plate. The cab wiring connects directly to the tractor battery.

Usage Features

The Kubota BX80 Series Cab is designed for ease of use and operator comfort, while emphasizing safety.

  • Operator Controls: The cab includes a switch plate with clearly labeled rocker switches for various functions. Operators should familiarize themselves with the location and function of all controls before operating the tractor to ensure safe operation.
  • Visibility: The deluxe cab design incorporates glass windows at all window locations, providing good visibility for the operator.
  • Emergency Exits: The ROPS cab is equipped with two doors, either of which can be used as an emergency exit.
  • Winter Front (Optional): If ordered, a winter front for the machine air intake can be used during winter months with cold weather. This feature helps maintain engine temperature in cold conditions. However, it is crucial to remove the winter front during warm weather to prevent the engine from starving for fresh air and overheating. Tektite is not responsible for engine overheating if the winter front is left on in warm weather.
  • Air Intake: The BX tractor draws its air intake from underneath the steering wheel. The cab design accounts for this, ensuring the tractor engine receives sufficient fresh air even when the cab is installed, preventing it from being completely sealed.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is essential for ensuring the safe and dependable service of the Kubota BX80 Series Cab.

  • Pre-Operation Inspection: Before starting a tractor equipped with the Tektite ROPS cab, operators should:
    • Clear the operator platform of all tools and debris to prevent interference with controls.
    • Inspect the ROPS and tractor to ensure all bolts are tight and re-tighten if necessary.
    • Verify that all pedals, levers, and controls have adequate clearance for normal operation.
    • Confirm that all electrical components of both the ROPS and tractor operate normally.
    • Ensure door latches properly onto the striker pin. Immediately after installation, the ROPS frame may flex, requiring re-alignment of the door latch by loosening the striker pin, striker mounting plate, and door latch.
  • Decal Maintenance: Safety decals must be kept clean, readable, and replaced if destroyed, missing, or painted over. If any safety decals are obscured by the ROPS, replacement decals from the tractor manufacturer should be mounted in a readable location. New ROPS and tractor decals are available from the tractor dealer.
  • ROPS Structural Integrity: The ROPS is designed to withstand a rollover. If the ROPS is subjected to alteration, structural damage, or involved in an overturn accident, the entire structure must be replaced. Failure to do so may result in injury or death in a future rollover.
  • Circuit Protection: All optional components are fused internally behind the cab switch plate, providing maximum protection against individual circuit overload.
  • Battery Management: Since cab wiring is direct to the tractor battery, operators must ensure no options are activated when the tractor is not running to prevent battery rundown.
  • Parts Replacement: Service parts breakdowns are provided in the manual for components that may require replacement. For replacement parts, contact the dealer from whom the ROPS was purchased, indicating the required parts.
  • Regular Cleaning: Remove mud, crop residue, chains, and tools from steps and the operator's platform to prevent interference with pedal operation or entry/exit.
  • Safety Devices: Safety devices and shields are intended to protect operators and should never be modified, disabled, or removed.
  • Annual Review: All operators should annually review the procedures in this manual and the tractor operator's manual. Operating instructions must be given to everyone using the tractor before operation and at least once yearly thereafter, in compliance with OSHA Regulations 1928.57 (United States).
