K-Series Using the wheelchair
29
Going up slopes
To go up a slope, you must create some momentum, keep up
the momentum and control the direction at the same time.
Bend your upper body forwards and propel the
wheelchair with quick, powerful strokes on both
handrims.
Going down slopes
When going down slopes, it is important to control your
direction and particularly your speed.
Lean back and carefully allow the handrims to run
through your hands. You should be able to stop the
wheelchair at any time by gripping the handrims.
CAUTION!
If you brake for a long time, a lot of frictional heat is
produced at the handrims (especially MaxGrepp and
Supergripp). You could burn your hands.
- Wear suitable gloves.
