Oil Fired Boiler

Summary

General Information

Boiler Installation

Recommends National Fire Protection Standard for Oil Burning Equipment (NFPA 31).

Freight Claims

Inspect boiler upon arrival for damage and file claims with the carrier.

Boiler Location

Position boiler near chimney with minimum smoke pipe connector length of 18".

Boiler Clearances (to combustibles)

Specifies minimum clearances: Top 6", Front 24", Rear 6", Sides 6".

Floor

Boiler must be mounted on a noncombustible masonry or cement floor.

Combustion and Ventilation Air

Requires inlet/outlet openings for adequate air supply for combustion.

Chimney and Draft Requirements

Connect to a chimney with sufficient draft and install a draft regulator.

Jacket (normally fitted)

Assemble jacket panels if not pre-fitted according to Figure 4.

Oil Burner (normally fitted)

Fit burner tube into boiler and secure flange per instructions.

Boiler Controls (normally fitted)

Fit controls like circulator, tridicator, relief valve, and aquastat relay.

Oil

Use only No. 2 heating oil; do not use gasoline or contaminated oil.

Oil Storage and Pipe Layout

Consult local codes for fuel storage and use recommended fuel line materials.

Electrical Wiring

All wiring must comply with National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and local codes.

Operation

Explains how the Honeywell L8124A aquastat relay controls the burner and circulator.

Domestic Water Piping

Connect anti-scald tempering valve and pressure relief valve for domestic hot water.

Cleaning the Boiler

Recommends annual cleaning for efficiency and longevity, especially at the end of the season.

Cleaning the Chimney

Sweep chimney annually and inspect for blockages or nests.

Servicing the Burner

Burner servicing must be performed by trained and licensed technicians.

Maintenance of the Tankless Coil
